Will there be videos on maltipom`s channel on youtube from the next season?

I`m really hoping for that because it`s the only one source where I can get sooo many clips from SCD..

Maltipom was banned from YouTube after a complaint from ITV over Dancing on Ice Clips which meant all her wonderful SCD clips disappeared as well. In spite of a petition and even a letter from ITV, YouTube refused pointblank to reinstate her, quoting US copyright law as their reason!

However, I guess she might re-register under another name and stick to SCD clips or put them up on another channel. Or maybe she's tired of staying up all night doing them! We look forward to hearing from her.

I have been assured that she will be back for SCD6 and I will put the clips on Greytop's Everything SCD so we're back in business again!

Is she going to do youtube clips or Veoh?

I've decided not to upload the commentary (if there is one) this year, as I need to concentrate on my MA. Other people have started doing it now so it should still be available. I will still be recording Breakfast every day, and also the One Show, so I'll upload any features on there.

She said she is going to do YouTube and if anyone particularly wants to download stuff then she'll put it on Veoh as well. But the main thing will be YouTube. Thanks for all your hard work in the past Katie with uploading the commentary. I could never watch SCD with the commentary as well as I found it too distracting, so it was great to watch it again via your clips. But an MA is important so we will forgive you and as you said - other people are doing it now as well.

Thanks

I'll probably still record everything so I can be a back-up if anything is missing. It's just a very big drain on time- I have no idea how maltipom manages it!

I don't think a lot of people appreciate how much work has to go into this. Some people just seem to casually ask "is anyone putting this up on YouTube", etc.

It depends on how powerful a computer someone has, and how fast their broadband connection is.

First the program has to be split into 10 minutes segments (in order for YouTube to accept it), and I think the segements have also to be "reformatted" - into an mpeg or avi or wmf file, and that can take as long to do the program itself takes to run.

On top of that, the uploading can take several times longer than the program itself takes to run (it does with my connection).

So, to process a half-hour program, could take a couple of hours work, or more.

The various different formats (mpeg, avi, wmf, etc) give differing levels of quality. The higher quality formats take much longer to upload. I think AVI files are about 4 times the size of WMF files (taking 4 times longer to format, and 4 times longer to upload). [I hope no-one ever mentions high-definition].

When Diet on the Dancefloor was starting there were several people, who didn't have Satelliete TV, who were asking for these programs to be uploaded, and some people who could have uploaded them, but who baulked at the prospect. That involved just one 50-minute program each week for just 8 weeks.

Uploading SDC and ITT is going to involve two hour-long/90-minute programs every weekend, plus a half-hour program every weeknight, and that's going to go on continuously for 3 months!!!

That's why we venerate Maltipom so much because she is prepared to do it as a labour of love and basically doesn't sleep very much while Strictly is on. She is a wonderful person to do it and I still hate ITV for making YouTube ban her and delete all her clips not just the Dancing on Ice ones. I did get an apologetic letter from ITV once they realised what they had done, and they wrote to YouTube as well, but it was too late as everything had been scrapped. And the really annoying thing was that there were still loads of DOI clips on YouTube from other people!

Thanks for your hard work katie and good luck with the MA (what's it in just out of interest?) - I hope the commentaries do go on because if I'm out on Saturday then I miss them and they're often interesting.

Can I just say ladies just how much your work is appreciated? I did say so last year and the year before as well - because there have been so many times when I have missed something and could be happy knowing that it would be on YouTube.

thank you Martyboy for showing to everyone just how much work needs to go into doing this - I'm quite techie but even I had no idea how long it all took for just a short piece.

So would love to say the HUGEST thank you in the world for all the work - and if you do both decide to continue with it, it is incredibly appreciated constantly.

THANK YOU so much. x

I'd like to say a massive thank you to everybody who gives up their time to post clips on youtube. It is VERY, VERY much appreciated and I don't know what we strictly fans would do without you. You are A-MAZ-ING !!!!!!!!!!

I would also like to thank everyone - and especially Maltipom and Katie_P - for the YouTube & Veoh clips (including all the lost clips on YT and Stage 6).

I realise how much time and patience goes into them and they are much appreciated.

Thanks for posting that, obviously people who have never done don't realise how long a process it is, but even doing the RBC once a week last year made me realise what a huge commitment maltipom makes doing it every night for three months

How long it takes depends how you do it, last year because I had just moved to Vista and was having compatibility problems with my software, it was taking me up to an hour to convert and upload every dance!

The MA is in History

What I will do is record the commentaries (if they are still done, there hasn't actually been any mention of them yet), apart from the first week when I'll be on holiday. I'm pretty sure at least one person will be uploading them so there shouldn't be any need for me to do it, but if no-one else does I might do them by request rather than uploading every dance every week. And obviously I will still upload the features on BBC Breakfast, typically there are only one or two of those each week so that's not really a problem.

Can I just add my thanks to all those who work so hard to put SCD (and related items) on YouTube? I was in the States for the final week of the last series (yes, very poor timing indeed ) and you guys saved my sanity (and quite possibly the lives of my family members ). Anyway, thank you so, so much for doing such a huge job with such thought and care.

Yes - a HUUUUGGEE thanks to both of you from me too - as well as all the moles who let us know the results on the Saturday nights!

The 1-hour-per-dance is in roughly the same ball park as the "2 hours to process a 30-minute program", quoted above.

It also depends a lot on how fast your computer is, and how fast your broadband connection is.

I think Microsoft also go out of their way to make the mechanics of processing these files difficult. Windows Media Centre, which a lot of people use to watch TV on their computers, allows you to save programs on your hard drive. But the format it uses (dvr-ms) is a proprietary Microsoft format, which is not compatible with any other software. So you can't load any files saved by Media Centre onto YouTube, or even edit them with just about anything else.

I installed Hauupage TV, which at least allows you to capture TV in a format that you can do something with.

Noo it's not! The RBC clips don't need to include VTs or judges' comments. This is actually one hour to upload a 90 second clip.

I don't have a capture card, so I go from DVD to AVI to youtube. Last year to complicate things I was recording the RBC on video as my DVD recorder was tied up recording the normal show. So the RBC was going video to DVD to AVI to youtube. And somewhere between DVD to AVI wasn't working, because my conversion software wasn't compatible with Vista, so it was taking me two to three attempts per clip. Fortunately someone pointed me towards Gordian Knot, which is actually easier to use than my old software, once you get to grips with it. Now that I'm set up, I'd probably be nearer to two to three hours for a thirty minute programme.

Just want to add my thanks- especially to maltipom, who took the effort to upload on divx stage 6 & then on veoh, when stage 6 stopped.

You were truly wonderful

Right, so now you are on the "2 hours to process a 30-minute program" schedule.

You don't need an internal TV card for things like Hauupage, they plug into a USB port. At least, I don't think you need any special hardware requirements.

"Gordian Knot" just about sums up the complexities of this process.

But you've got a workable routine now, which is what matters.

I suppose it's useful having the programs saved on DVD too.

Do you need an aerial plugged in? I actually don't know that much about them, just that I don't have one! Or the money for one come to that

Most of these things I would be saving on to DVD anyway, so it's not a big deal for me to do it this way.

There's a little device which plugs into a USB port, and you plug a coax (aerial) lead into the device.

The coax can be the feed from your roof aerial, or the output from a satellite box, or from a video recorder or DVD player, or you can use digital video-type connections rather than coax.

But it's best to stick with what works for you. If it works, don't fix it.

I'd like to add my thanks on two counts:

1) I too hugely appreciate all the efforts made by those who upload onto YT etc., expecially Maltipom and Katie_p. I was aware that it was time consuming but hadn't appreciated just how.

2) Thanks also to katie_p and martyboy for explaining some of the ins-and-outs. I have considered getting into this kind of stuff but haven't. I'm only vaguely techie and simply not in your league. Although I'm capable of figuring most things out, what puts me off is the time it all takes! So same thing really, thanks for your dedication.

The irony is that I have one or two other time consuming hobbies, one of which is watching/reading all things SCD mainly from links posted on here.
