Berries and mushrooms
THR
30-08-2008
I talked about this thing earlier in another thread how land-owners can close their land and stop anyone entering their land. Well, according to the laws of this country, that is their right.

According to some estimates only some 10% of berries and mushrooms are picked every year. The rest are left to rot. I can understand the laws about trespassing if it involves your immediate surroundings or if you are farming a plot of land but owning thousands of acres of land with no use to it but still denying public access, I don't understand.

In the Nordic countries there is the everyone's right to roam-rule. I think someone mentioned there is a similar rule in Scotland. You can go to someone's land and pick berries and mushrooms but must respect the land and not leave any litter behind. Self-evident, I say.

We do have the right to roam in Scotland and have been known to use it to pick mushrooms in the past. Oh, the fun we had

why not just go pick berries on public land then? the 90% of berries that arnt picked cant all be on private land?

(Im not saying i dont agree with you (that we should be able to pick berries on private land) btw)

We do and we don't. I'm not sure of the rules, but it seems to cover moorland and upland mainly. The kind of land the OP is on about is lowland and arable land which doesn't generally fall into the right to roam catagory (especially if owned by Madonna )
