I once ordered a sorbet in a restaurant and as I was eating it I discovered what I thought was a hard chocolate centre to it but it turned out to be a cockroach - I have no idea if it was dead or merely stunned by the cold. They were very apologetic but when the bill came they had charged me for it! I threatened them with environmental health and they said, okay we'll give you the sorbet for free. I started talking about their kitchen infestation in a very loud voice and in the end we got 75% reduction.

Another time I went to a lovely restaurant with a friend who was pregnant. She ordered a salad and found what she thought was a caterpillar on the lettuce and thought she had eaten half of it - she actually had to go to the toilet to throw up! It was then discovered that it was a tiny piece of the polystyrene protection it had been packaged in. I thought that was not really their fault but they were horrified it had made my friend sick and insisted on giving us our meals for free as well as anything we wanted to drink. My friend only wanted water but I had a cocktail!

I will never forget my sister eating a peach when i was about 7 or 8 (she was around 13). She was munching away, and pulled the peach away from her mouth to discover a maggot - which was luckily still intact !!!

Ditto - and this was not just a peach but a M&S peach which I was munching on. Thankfully spotted it in time - unfortunately was in office at time that head boss walking past my door as i screamed and launched peach across room!

I had a fly in my soup, seriously. I opened a tin of Heinz Pea & Ham, there it was floating on the top, a big juicy bluebottle.

I had bought two cans on the same day, I can't bring myself to open the other one, even six months later, anyone want it?

I thought about sending it to them, but how can you prove it was in the tin already?
