Finally got Virgin to say that there could indeed be a fault external to the property.

This after phoning twice on Wednesday, 1 call on Thursday, 1 call on Friday and 2 calls on Saturday. Total time on phone 2 hours plus!

Virgin were supposed to call back giving me an update on Thursday, Friday and Saturday - they didn't phone back at all.

Only my persistence on Saturday, and point of nearly shouting down the phone did I get a second line manager who could raise a fault with BT Wholesale.

Could take up to 5 working days I was told!!! We wait and see. I don't have much confidence given the intermediate nature of the fault.

The weathers fine, warm and no rain - the internet appears to be working nearly normally!

Next - time for the grey external wire to go open circuit

Virgin told me that they would phone me back - they haven't done so yet - I will call them tonight from home and see what they have to say for themselves

The broadband hasn't been working at all this week. I'm fed up with Virgin. Means I can't work from home.

The Broadband problems have been going on for several months now.....Anyone have an email address for their chief exec???

Finally emailed the CEO of VirginMedia and got a response the same day

Several calls from Virgin later, got a BT Engineer booked for last Friday.

BT Engineer turns up, don't know anything about broadband he says!.

Anyway, in attempt to help he did various tests, then looked at the cable from the pole to the house. 2 Core grey wire in poor condition says he. So he replaced the wire, and then installed a new master socket at the point where the wire enters the house.

A cup of tea and some choccie bisciuts later he finishes.

Anyway this hasn't improved the stats on the router, but the broadband is working (it was working before the BT engineer called)

A follow up call from Virgin and I tell them that the BT engineer was not aware of a ADSL fault, only a phone fault!

Suggested that Virgin call me back in 2 weeks or so to see if the broadband is still working.

We'll see how it goes over the next few days

I also have a supply of these.

The broadband has been working for about 10 days without a disconnection now. (But its has done this before....)

5M1L3Y - Anyway I'm keeping my fingers and toes crosssed that changing the external drop wire to the house has cured the problem.

Virgin due to phone me later this week to check that all is ok.

Right, I'm gonna have to go and buy 3 packets of hobknobs at the start of the new year before I book an appointment with an engineer.
