Gethin
At a Charity Ball - truly great host and compere, and lovely to a table full of his 'Girls'

At Hay Book Festival - remembered us and was so good with the kids, and their Mums! Met his Mum and Dad too.

Swansea Proms in the Park - again very gracious and funny.

Camilla and Ian at the same Charity Ball and at their show in Perth. They were both funny, charming, interested and interesting. Camilla was bubbly, excited, and enjoying dancing with Geth again 3 months after the show. Geth was Waltz step perfect after rehearsing for only an hour so before the event.

Geth and Camilla and Ian are diamonds and winners all the way for me.

I find this thread very interesting, as surely it must be hard for any pro dancer to live up to our expectations. We only see what the BEEB decide to cut in the editing room, and we make our opinion based on that. We do not know them in person, but this celebrity culture we live in and the fact that they appear in our living room every day makes us feel that we know them and see them as almost friends. Therefore if anyone gets the chance to meet them we expect them to match up to our requirements, I think in most cases in real life most people don't match up to them perceptions we have of them. I think that sometimes that people forget that they are people and that dancing is just their job, same as being a plumber , bus driver etc. This doesn't make them better people, more sociable ot less inclined to a bad day. Sometimes I think that "fans" can also be a bit pushy, expecting people to have time to talk to them , sign autographs etc no matter what they are doing. I have heard of fans interuprting private dinners or even asking for autographs whilst in the gents!
My husband works in the public eye, and gets this on a minor scale, people think they can barge in on you whatever time night or day, that you do not have a right to a private life, always have to be happy and smiley, and are amazed that at the end of the day the last thing that you want to talk about is what you do at work all day.
Just remember they are human, and don't put them them on pedestals that might be a long way to fall!

I have loved reading all of your stories of meeting the dancers. It's fascinating hearing who's nice and who's not.
I have never been one for meeting my idols , I think I just fear a bad experience like some of you have had here. Last year I was metres away from one of my favourite actors and didn't go and say hi . Also going up to someone I respect and stuttering 'I'mjemmaandiloveyou' probably wouldn't be a good idea!

I'm the same, have been in that position a couple of times and did the same thing. I just don't want to be disappointed, plus I'm worried about bothering them.
