And I am not talking about simply not liking things here, but genuine make you projectile vomit type allergies !
I can't eat white fish, but am alright with oily fish. Apparently it's a rare but recognised allergy.
Similarly, a friend of ours can't eat garlic, and another one can't eat bananas.

My sister's tongue literally swells up if she has pineapple or kiwi... she says it doesn't hurt her when it happens but it takes a good hour or two for the swelling to go down.

(Plus, its funny when it does happen )

Not sure if this counts, but I cannot be in the same room as a ripening banana without risking a migraine.

I don't doubt some people do have genuine allergies but I am equally certain a lot of people just say they have allergies for effect. When I was growing up it was eat it or go hungry. None of this cooking 3 or 4 different meals at each dinner time.

Funnily, I actually agree with you on this one - at least to a certain extent. For instance, all these people with wheat allergies ( and I know there are some genuine sufferes out there ) who then go out at night and guzzle designer lagers....
Or an acquaintace of mine, who claims to be allergic to "savoury" cheese and cream dishes, but can eat a New York cheesecake....

Not strictly an allergy, in that it doesn't create a life-threatening reaction, but coriander makes me feel very, very ill indeed. I think it is a wierd genetic variation - my mother and brother both have the same reaction - similar to the one that makes some people loathe the taste of cucumber. We have a friend who has this and no one believed him until he found an article in New Scientist about it!

I'm allergic to crab (my mouth starts to water and then I'll vomit like a Viking within 5 minutes of eating any) but I'm fine with any other seafood.

Oi!

Foodwise I can eat absolutely anything, but the banana ripening thing is all too real I'm afraid.

Same for my dad and brother! Wierd because it happened to my dad over 2 Kiwis, when he'd been fine before. First one made his mouth tingle, next time swelling up of tongue and throat - he hasn't eaten them since, for fear of not being able to breathe on the third

I don't think it can be classed an allergy as such but I sneeze hundreds of times if I eat really dark chocolate (although I love it!).

I don't seem to be able to tolerate seafood either but that could be an eating out thing as I rarely cook it myself and I know it's a common food poisoning source when it's not cooked and stored properly.

My sister has an allergy to white cheese - she gets a rash and according to her she can smell something like mud for ages afterwards!

Oh and my boyfriend has an 'allergy' to asparagus of all things (which is a massive shame as I love it!) - he gets swollen lips after he's eaten it - I guess that could be something to do with what it gets sprayed with beforehand though as well.

OOOH seafood poisoning...... I could start another thread on that.
Was poisoned a couple of years ago by the Norwalk virus that was residing in some oysters I had.
Ended up in hospital on a drip..... and him indoors still likes to tell the story about my project vomitting, preferably at dinner parties.

He does right.
It's a pretty common thing for subsequent exposures to an allergen to produce a more marked effect each time, leading right up to anaphylactic shock. Which can be lethal.

Tomatos and potatos make me really ill!! which are 2 things I love. I am intolerant to turkey and carrots! which is odd.

I miss mash potatos! Mashed parsnip or butternut just isnt the same.

My nose always gets itchy whenever I butter toast but it's fine when I'm actually eating it. Does that count?!

Caffeine. 2 cups of caffeinated coffee in the space of 30 minutes and I start to shake, feel very very sick and my body aches in a similar way as when you have the flu. It's almost like waking up in the morning when you've had a migraine in your sleep and it's too late to take Migralieves. Takes about 12 hours for the pain and sickness to go away.

Skate makes my mouth itch, its the only fish that does it..luckily I don't eat fish anymore, but as a child we had it regularly as my granddad was a fish monger and skate was his favourite, so he'd always bring a load home

Also marmalade and mints make me sneeze uncontrollably

Most alcohol - one sip of wine makes my heart start racing and my breathing laboured and other things like rum, alcho-pops make me projectile vomit within ten minutes of having a mouthful. I've always known about the wine thing but my intolerance to other alcoholic drinks have developed over the years. Unfortunately I found out about the rum one on a birthday meal with my boyfriend having had about three sips of a delicious raspberry daiquiri.

I get these symptoms when I drink coffee too. I crave a decent cup of coffee but its just not worth it. Most of the decaff coffee these days is ok.
I took me about three months to sus out what was making me feel so bad, it was after drinking a glass of coke and not coffee that it dawned on me it was caffeine.

I'm allergic to cow's milk and yogurt, but I'm OK with most cheeses and chocolate, thankfully.

I like white crusty bread but it gives me migraines and keeps me awake at night. Yikes!

I used to say I was allergic to milk when I was younger as I hated it (before lactose intolerance was recognised) so I was allowed to drink juice in primary school whilst everyone else had milk!! To be fair I still cannot drink milk now (have a smidge in my tea)

I also get a really bad headache after eating red onions, but I love red onions so much I don't care
