Multi-region DVD on Blu-Ray

Does anyone know of a Blu-Ray player that is multi-region for DVD out of the box? I heard that there are some Panasonic players that are but can't track down any definite information.

I have several thousand Region 1 DVDs and would just like to swap my existing DVD player for a Blu-Ray.

Lets us know how you get on, not going to touch another Blu-ray player until multiregion (DVD and Blu) is not only easy to obtain but a reasonable premium.
For now I am using my PC to stream Blu to the plasma via component, not problem playing the movies but it struggles with PIP.

As for the TV, Pana Viera Plasma range, not relatively expensive and glorious

Will do....but I only intend to get UK Blu-Ray discs (as it doesn't have a Blu-Ray modification, just DVD) . I was more concerned about being able to play my Region1 DVDs on it

Sorry about that David,I thought it applied to blu ray as well. If you are interested in Sony, then I know for sure that the BDP S300 is region 1+2 dvd,and A+B blu ray,as I have it myself. Check out Stegen Electronics.

Slightly misleading.

The Sony is NOT multiregion for either dvd or Bluray.

However some specialist retailers sell them with their own modifications.

If it goes wrong Sony wont touch it.

The retailer is responsible

Ah, still any thoughts on the service and product most welcome.

The silver cloud on the HD DVD failure was the DVD region hack for the players so that is my multi-region DVD player now with my PC having taken over from the broken PS3 for Blu-ray

Panasonic arrived today by courier.

Set up and connection straightforward. (Although the new TV has not arrived yet so is currently connected to my SD CRT.)

Tried Region1 DVDs from MGM and CTHV (who I believe use RCE which can defeat some hacks/modifications) and they played perfectly.

Played some audio and MP3 CDs and was pleased to see the track listing appear on screen. Not seen that before on a DVD player.

You can read more about it here

http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/456895/index.html

and you can even read the manual if you wish.

Paid £299 with mod which looks good cpmpared to the Tesco price:
