Mediocre. Boring. No real tune.
Another talenteless no hope that will fade into obscurity once the fad has gone. I want my 3mins 28secs back please. |

Sounds like a Lidl version of Britney. Absolutely appalling. |

I just came across this digital spy review of 'The Fame'. :
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/al...-the-fame.html It's quite interesting actually, I am listening to 'The Fame' (album) now. It is a very good album and so pop, pure pop infact. I'm hoping 'ARTPOP' is like this. |

Too right!
![]() Also Gaga posted on her twitter today that 'The Fame' and 'Born This Way' are the 4th and 5th most digitally downloaded albums!

Style over substance.
Poker Face, Just Dance and Love Game were brilliant tracks but the rest of the songs were dreadful. Very weak, limp and generic songs that were there just to fill up time. |

I was talking about the album but I guess her as well. Take away all the crazy stunts, over the top performances, weird outfits, dramatic mannerisms, heavy make up and bizarre behaviour and you're left with a girl singing regular pop songs. Some are pretty good, some are awful, but the hype that was around her was shocking. She's really no different from the other pop stars no matter how hard she tries to tell us otherwise.

I love when people doubted her in 08 and said she will "fade" within the year. The thing about Gaga is that she actually can sing, most people just comment negatively on her clothes, hair and make-up and believe she lacks substance but if people actually listened to her music acoustically i'm sure they would be very surprised.

Interesting what people said about her before she became big. I actually thought she was going to be a one-hit wonder as she just came out of nowhere. Seems I was wrong
I do like her music though.

Let's be honest though, looking at her performances and the kind of material she was peddling back in 2008, it's not wildly below belt for people to suggest she was merely another fad with a mediocre voice and even more mediocre pop tunes.
Don't get why people don't like 'Paparazzi' more though. That was when I knew she meant business. 'Poker Face' and 'Just Dance' were certifiably meh, but I couldn't see many pulling off 'Paparazzi', and when she performed it at the VMAs that was when I knew she could sing properly, once she stopped dancing like a constipated pensioner. I'm reasonably glad she's sustained herself, though if she comes out with another 'Born This Way' she may dig herself into an even deeper subcultural music niche I've no intention of being part of. This will always be the peak of her career for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq6aybjUQkU It's not just the song, but it's the performance. Put GaGa in front of a piano and she's unparalleled. |

So this thread has been brought back from the dead, to point out to the OP, that Gaga is still going strong?
Well, she may well be but it doesn't take away from the fact that her music is awful euro-pop cobblers..... |

4 years on, and I think the same. Just Dance (and also Poker Face, Bad Romance, Paparazzi), etc. all had the MAJOR flaw that their instrumentals lacked any melody.
The only one at the time that had an instrumental with a good, stand-out, memorable melody was Love Game, but the rest of her singles that year were basically Maneater by Nelly Furtado with the melody removed. There's also many, many threads from back then saying the exact opposite. I used to have to argue with people all the time, because they would INSIST that she's going to be around for 30 years, that she's saved pop music, blah blah blah. Based just off two songs (Just Dance and Poker Face) people were coming to those ridiculous conclusions. And look at her now! |

Not at all. With Gaga saying about 'The Fame' being one of the most digitally downloaded albums it got me listening to it. It's probably one of my favourite albums ever. Sure, I understand it's very pop and could be deemed bland in content but it was her who introduced me to 'clever pop'. Some may disagree but the verses written in 'Poker Face' are amazing.

I thought the 'Poker face' production/instrumental was amazing, as was 'paper gangsta' and 'paparazzi'.

Now I think of it, Lady GaGa instrumentals are actually pretty amazing for the most part IMO.

This thread just makes me want to go and upload The Fame back onto my iPod!
Fame and Monster have to undoubtedly be my most played albums ever; I brought The Fame in February 2009 and didn't stop playing that or Monster until Born This Way in May 2011 (which the same can't be said for sadly, in fact I don't think I played BTW once in 2012). |

And I never understood all the hate for BTW album. I always hated BTW (song) as found it too contrived in a "today, I want to make a gay anthem" kind of thing, but loved the album itself.
Heavy Metal Lover, The Edge Of Glory, Judas, Marry The Night and Bad Kids were all quality tunes. I hope GaGa keeps her 80s inspired pop sound for ArtPop. |
