4:3 mode on widescreen tv
I have a Sony KV28LS36 tv. When watching a 4:3 program on Sky Digital and I set the tv to 4:3 mode, it is is obvioulsy pillarboxed, but the picture is actually square not rectangular ie 3:3 not 4:3 if you know what I mean.
Can this be corrected because it looks as if everything is squashed up and makes viewing very difficult. |

If the picture in the box looks squashed then you should leave the TV in 16:9 mode as it sounds like the Sky box is already converting the picture (presumably you have told the Sky box you have a 16:9 TV). HTH

Does this still happen if you view an analogue channel on the TV, i.e. without the Sky box?

I haven't tried it on analogue.
The digibox is indeed set to 16:9. The tv is set up to auto-switch to wide when it detects at 16:9 broadcast and to revert to 4:3 pillarbox when not. |

It will almost certainly be the set geometry - I have seen it many times before.
Sadly it needs an engineer and pattern generator to fix it. Do circles look compressed like eggs? If so that's the answer. |

Thanks for your responses, it is still under warranty so I presume I'll be able to get it sorted.
