i'm sure you'll still be able to buy 80GB ones for a while.

John Lewis / Waitrose are usually very good at discounting old models to shift them before the new ones come in.

i tried it out briefly, and it actually did a half decent job. when you have your playlist, you can refresh it, and it'll do a different list.

presumably its based on things like genre and BPM. i imagine if you rate all your tracks too, it'll be better still.

Not important to alot of people evidently as Apple sell very few classic and it is believed that this will be the last revision.

I wouldn't recommend upgrading unless it's to the Touch.

it's horses for courses, I can see some people love the smaller device with less storage because it forces them to pick a few albums and they stick with those choices for a few days, other users may find the need to keep chopping and changing playlists a real pain,so the larger device might appeal especially if they're not regular music purchasers, have busy lifestyles, and years of music collection behind them.

Also, theres a lot to be said in favour of the flash based nano in terms of extended battery life, not that the hard disk based classic is particularly bad at battery consumption.

Lets be honest it's more than a few albums, The 16GB nano for example can hold 4000 songs.

I think most people have a set amount of songs that are there most listened too and 4000 isn't exactly restrictive. The classic is a good device for some people but out of the 10 million iPods sold in the first three month of the year I think you would be lucky if 1 million of that was classics

Looking at the screen the main focus has shifted to showing artwork rather than the details.

Details are now just at the bottom, with the album artwork covering 90% of the screen.

I am kind of regretting buying my Classic now but that's just 'cos the new Nanos look so snazzy.

*Slaps hand*

Hopefully my classic will do me a good while.

I really like my Classic but I take my Shuffle out and about. The Classic is great for holidays when it's too hot to even read - I can listen to the comedy and audiobooks.

After being driven crazy all day yesterday and today i finally ordered a 16GB Touch. Whether to go 8 or 16 is kinda a sad problem to have i this world all things considered, still drove me insane mind.

I know all that and I do it regularly, but even with that my backlog starting building up about six months ago.

But really why did they discontinue the 160gb classic? I'm sure the price point between it and the 120gb can't be much. That point 'bout them discontinuing the classic sounds quite plausible to me 'cos most of u would take a 64gb touch over a 120gb classic. Right?

Steve said that almost no one was buying the 160 gig model so they actually improved the base version by 40 gig for the same price as before.

No point making a product that doesn't sell, the market for players over 120GB is very small.

It's 20 quid more for the base version in the UK.

I don't think it will be long before we see a 64GB Touch and I think the Classic will be totally phased out when we do.

Ian this is not related to what you wrote but does the Touch now have the back light timer function? The way I use my 5.5 Video I am constantly searching through and switching between music, audiobooks, podcasts and video and when I last used a Touch the only function that would come close, at least in terms of protecting battery life, was the auto off (I think that's what it is called)function but it was a major pain to have to press either button and then slide my finger across the screen to then be able to move on to something else. It is the primary reason why I returned my 32 gig Touch.

I want to be able to have the back light go off to conserve battery power and still have quick and easy access to the device. At the time I couldn't believe Apple didn't have such a common sense function, especially as the previous iPods had it.

Only if they release a 64gb Nano will I be gutted that I bought my 80gb Classic.
Nevertheless, it may be up to a year before this happens and I would have been iPodless for all that time (because my old 4gb 1st gen mini had packed in for good)...

I'm one of those "likes to carry around their whole music collection" guys.. there's no point in having a portable library otherwise..

Typical! I buy my iPod Touch in May and now Apple have gone and give it a hardware update! I'd have liked a volume button and integrated speaker but never mind, I'm still glad I bought my iPod, it is the best portable device I've ever bought and I certainly will recommend them to anyone.
