Might sound a dumb question but here goes how often do you use yours, just for films,hd broadcasts or just everyday use?.

My amp is on everyday as I like to listen to the radio.

The amp is normally on when we watch TV too, not by choice, the majority of our viewing has been recorded through Sky HD and we can't view that unless the amps on, amp does the switching. It's kind of wasted on stuff like reality shows so I knock it into pure direct mode, I suppose it's better than the squeaky TV speakers.

The plasma is on everyday but we rarely watch HD through it anymore, this is saved up for the weekend when the projector gets fired up, we also watch the occasional Bluray as well, this is when the system really works well together.

The Amp is only turned on for watching films or listening to music, our PDP has a pretty good sound which is part of the reason for buying it.
Can't see the point in watching the news & general TV through a big ass Amp.

Our system is on all the time. We have a monitor plasma screen and a projector - so neither have built in speakers.

All the time. It's only turned off if I go out or go to sleep.

I only use mine some of the time.

Films and some live sports mostly.

And the sub only gets switched on for special occasions now that we live in a terraced townhouse.

Has your amp got DRC (Dynamic Range Control) or night mode feature, something that allows you to equal out and reduce the intensity of the lower/higher frequencies, this feature is handy for those like yourself who have consideration for others and don't listen at high levels, it allows you to have the whole system on, including the sub as it equals out the soundtrack, loud explosions are not as powerful, you still get realism without too much of a compromise.

Every day.

If I'm not watching tv or DVDs then the hi-fi is on and I listen to either the radio, CDs or vinyl. If we're watching the tv or DVDs then we use our surround sound set up,as tv speakers are, in general, such unbelievably poor quality to me they're not worth bothering with.

I don't think so, I'd need to look.

It's a fairly old Yamaha amp (bought sometime around 2000-ish) and it wasn't a terribly expensive one at the time. But ..... it does put out a nice sound and has a decent number of ingoing and outgoing connections so I've been happy to stick with it for now.

But it's near the top of the list for replacement so will probably be replaced with something new early next year ..... all I need to do now is work out what!

My VSX 817 is on from when I get up to when I go to bed unless Iam out.
I use this all the time for TV the 360 or for playing music from the PC.

For a normal TV show I some times use multi stereo if its the news or a music channel.

When ever the TV is on, the amp is on.

Even when watching the news the sound quality is alot nicer on the ears than built in speakers ever could be (not their fault, they do the best they can squeezing an almost flat speaker into a couple of inches).

Also, don't fall into the trap that the inlaws thought - and thats home theater = loud, infact, I'd go as far as saying the opposit, as the sound is crisp and clear compared to built in speakers you dont NEED to have it loud (but the option is always there).
