Will the LG HT503TH play HD-DVDs or Blu-Ray DVDs?

If not, can anyone recommend a Home Theatre system that will but under £250.

Thanks

No.

It's a DVD player.

I don't think you'll get a bluray home cinema system for under £250. The players themselves only came down under £200 recently so I'd say you've got pretty much no chance of getting a player AND speaker system for that money. Not even sure a player + speakers package actually even exists yet to be honest.

You could probably pick up an HD-DVD player cheaply but again, I don't know of any that come bundled with speakers, and it'll be cheap because it's a dead format.

It's this generations betamax .... I wouldn't bother.

Samsung do a Bluray all in one system but it comes in at £899.

They both look pretty cool .... I have to admit.

Never noticed any all-in-ones for bluray before now .... I did wonder if they'd come with 7 speakers instead of the 5 you get with DVD all-in-ones .... looks like they do! (Well, the Samsung one does anyway)

But .... I imagine you could get a better deal if you just bought a player, amp and speakers. Certainly, you'd end up with a more flexible package. (If you'll pardon the terminology!)

Maybe in another 12 months all-in-ones might be drop into a lower price bracket but I think £250 might be pushing it a bit ....

They do look rather good, probably the best examples of an all in one system I've seen, especially the Samsung, it has a couple of digital inputs, decodes HD audio and looks pretty good, the thing that lets it down for me is the power and frequency response of the speakers.

Personally I prefer a separate amp, speakers and player myself.

You might be able to build a system for about £350 based on a home PC and a cambridge or logitech 5.1 digital sound system.

You could build a PC around a (less than £70) LG HDDVD?Blu-Ray/DVD & CD RW drive for about £250 if you shopped around and you should be about to find a matching 5.1 speaker system for about £100.

If you already have a desktop PC you're most of the way there already, and you can use any remainder to buy quieter fans and other components (if necessary).

Whatever you do, it's going to be cheaper, will sound better, and much more versatile than a standard stand alone BD player with speakers.

That's what I've done, and it really works very well indeed. Build one around a M-ITX motherboard with built in networking, sound card and you can get a really classy enclosure to suit your own tastes.
