Stray Kitten
Hey everyone
I've come across a stray kitten that had been chucked out in the rain. It's in my house at the minute, but I can't keep it because my son is allergic to them. I have tried calling all the relevant places but they are all shut. Can someone please advise me what to do with this kitten? Thanks |

do you have a conservatory? Keep it in there with a place to poo and some food until the morning when you can take it to a cat rescue place!
Failing that, put it in the porch and put a note on the door asking people to go round the back when they wanna come in the house! |

Ring the RSPCA. I've always had excellent advice from their helpline. They can send an inspector out to your house to collect the kitten even in the evening so they're definitely worth a try. Other than that, do you have friends or neighbours who could take it in? Many vets are open 24 hours for emergencies, although its not really an emergency you might find a vet willing to take it. You could always tell a white lie and say you found it in the road and it might have been hit by a car.

Thanks The poor thing looks absolutely starving and it is covered in bites (probably fleas) and quite a lot of its fur is missing. However we cannot catch it but have been feeding it in the garden since Monday. It is quite friendly until I try to pick it up as I had made an appointment at the vets this morning but me and my oh are now covered in scratches trying to get it in the cat basket. I cancelled the appointment and have since then tried ringing round various organisations with no luck whatsoever. I rang the RSPCA and left a message on their answerphone and no-one has returned the call. I am really frustrated as I used to watch all those Animal Rescue programmes where they always send someone round to sort the situation. I am going to try and catch him tonight with some pieces of cooked chicken and hopefully keep him in the kitchen for the night as it is has been pouring down. We are in Tyne and Wear if anyone knows any numbers I could ring, otherwise I will just persevere and hope he will eventually let me pick him up |

Try your local vets and Cats Protection League, they may well be able to help.
As an earlier poster said, if you are able to keep the kitten warm and dry and offer food then fantastic - if I were you I would sleep well knowing that you have done everything you can, given that you cannot keep kitty. Bless you for doing this - as a cat lover (I have three!!) it's so good to read about somebody wanting to do the right thing rather than just ignoring the situation. |

Hey again
Well I had a right job trying to find somewhere for the kitten to go, but no one can pick her up til tomorrow. So she is now lay on my sofa cleaning herself after filling her belly with food and water. So unfortunately, my son got kicked out and had to go and stay with my sister. LOL I'm actually warming to her and would like her to stay, it's just a shame my son is allergic to her. And to the poster who said she might be someones pet... well, they threw the kitten out in the rain and said to my son 'I don't want it, you have it!'. Anyway, thanks to everyone for their advice. |

A bit like how you'd feed a squirrel by hand but you wouldn't pick it up. If you're not successful maybe phone the council and say you have a wild cat. I know I'm making assumptions here but I've had experience of this. |

This is terrrible and a really bad experience for you. Depending on the age the cat may be ferel and my concern is that if you've been scratched you may (as a routine precaution) need to tell your doctor.

Just an update for anyone interested. We have been feeding the stray cat since Monday and because the weather was so bad Friday and Saturday we made him a shelter in the garden and put the cat food under there. He is very talkative. Anyway when we came home late last night I went into the garden and shouted of him and amazingly he came running straight over and into our house. He must have sat on my knee for at least two hours while I brushed him to try and rid some of the fleas and he was really content. I managed to put some flea treatment on him as well and he has been in and out of the house all day and is now sunning himself in the back garden. Unfortunately the RSPCA were no help whatsoever, not even returning my call as I left a message. But because he now seems a lot more confident of us I will take him to the vets tomorrow and get him looked over. He is really gorgeous and our younger cat, he is only 9 months old, is quite taken with him. My daughter has decided to call him Alfie.

Alfie is yours now ..... you just need to realise it.
![]() Thats how we ended up with our cat. She wandered into a friends living room window one day and just kept coming back and staying longer and longer until she didn't leave. They tried to find an owner (no collar or chip) but no luck. When they were leaving to go to uni in Aberdeen, we took the kitty who was otherwise headed for the cat home. Little did we know that kitty was a week or two pregnant at this point! Now we have two (very similar looking) kitties! ![]() (and two friends have the other two very similar looking kitties) |

Aww Huggykins! That's such a lovely story.
We decided to keep our kitten too, my son is fine with her now as long as he doesn't put his face close to her. We also wipe her with anti-allergy wipes, so all is good! She's a lovely kitten and loves it here with us. I'm so glad my son bought her home

Re the allergy, if you get really attached to a cat/kitten, it might be worth persevering with antihistimines for a few days(if the effects aren't life threatening obviously
) while the allergic person"gets used to it", my OH & daughter always sneeze etc when meeting a new animal, but it wears off in a day or so, if the worst of the symptoms are kept at bay

It's always heartwarming when you hear that people have taken in young kittens who have gone astray - sadly as an owner of a kitten who has gone missing it's the most painful thing to ever happen.
I just hope my little Shadow has found himself a friendly warm bed and someone who will take care of him. If this were the case I could rest easy then |

Yes kittens are bloody hard work but they are so rewarding and loving and adorable. I couldn't imagine someone throwing a poor, defenceless little mite out in the rain. I know it happens, all too often! But still. What a good Samaratan you have been and looks like there has been a happy ending afterall ![]() Quote:
What a pr!ck! You should report that person to the RSPCA
