daisy chain sky+ virgin media box & dvd recorder
Is it possible to daisy chain sky+ virgin media box & dvd recorder. My tv only has 2 scarts on it both being used by VM settop box and dvd recorder.
I had someone round today to see if it was possible to have sky installed with virgin media set top already installed. He said it would work ok. His quote was £351.25 inc vat for the sky+ system complete. I rang sky after he left to see what price deal they could offer I explained I have VM and I also wanted sky they quote £180.00 I am having sky+ installed on Monday. The fella at sky said that sky+ and VM would work ok but I forgot about the dvd recorder and that connects via scart so now I am not sure how to add the dvd recorder to the setup. I don't know how many scarts the sky+ has. Virgin Media box 2 scarts at back. Dvd recorder 2 scarts at back. Would it be best to buy a scart splitter/box? Any help would be grateful recieved. I ready for the challenge.

Sky+ has two scarts.
Sky does RGB passthrough, I don't know about V+. I would be inclined to connect V+ on it's own and daisy chain Sky+ and the DVD recorder. RGB connection - If the TV has only one RGB input it will be down to you to what you connect to it, if it has two then it won't be that important. Too late now but if you had looked on the Sky forum/s you could have picked up one of the voucher codes and got Sky+ free. |

Thanks for replying
sorry to sound dumb what is RGB passthrough I've not heard of it before? how would I find out if if I have these? my tv has 2 scarts at the back and 1 set of yellow, white and red connectors (sorry can't think of the right name) on the front. so how would I go about daisy chaining the sky and the dvd? I downloaded the instructions for connecting the sky+ and dvd recorder together from the sky website that seems straight forward enough but I am still stuck how to set up the VM settop as this also use a scart connection. |

RGB gives you a better picture than composite. Quote:

You sometimes find TV's with 3-4 scart connections have 2 RGB inputs, TV's that only have two inputs normally only have one. The red, white, and yellow connectors are for composite video and audio, yellow being the video, red and white the audio. Quote:
so how would I go about daisy chaining the sky and the dvd?
Connect Sky+ to the TV then connect the recorder to the second scart on the Sky+ box. Connect recorder to the TV then connect Sky+ to the second scart on the recorder. |

Don't think you got it quite right. I've got all you are trying to join up. It goes like this. Recorder scart 1 (out/in) to Sky box scart 2 (in/vcr). Sky box scart 1 (out/tv) to TV scart 1 (in). Then V+ box scart 1 (out/in) to TV scart 2 (in/out).

Fslot thanks for the reply nice to know I won't have to send the VM back. I don't know if the people who are installing the sky would set it all up so its all working together.
Best being prepared. |

Should just be a case of connecting the VM box to the recorder.
VM Box AV2 to AV2 on the recorder. I 'll let you know how it all turns out. |
