Saturday 27th September

Strictly Come Dancing
6.45pm - 8.05pm - BBC One

Celebrity ballroom dancing competition, hosted by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly. The eight female stars compete against each other for the first time. Dancing either a salsa or foxtrot, they will be hoping to earn viewer votes and impress judges Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli. The remaining male celebrities, safe in the knowledge none of them will be leaving the competition this week, perform a group merengue.

The X Factor
7.45pm - 9.15pm - ITV1

The cream of the crop from the auditions head to the biggest bootcamp ever, inside London's O2 arena, where judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh put over 150 acts from across the country through their paces. Who will handle the pressure and shine on the big stage? And who will be heading home?

Sunday 28th September

The X Factor
7.00pm - 8.00pm - ITV1

The remaining acts return to the O2 stage for the second stage of Bootcamp, as the judges ramp up the pressure. Each act has one more chance to shine, before judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh decide which of the contestrants will make it into the next round.

Strictly Come Dancing
8.00pm - 9.00pm - BBC One

Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly host the celebrity ballroom dancing competition. The eight female stars and their professional dance partners battled it out with a salsa or foxtrot. Now the two couples with the lowest combined judges' score and viewer votes must perform again in the dance-off, and only one will be saved by the judges. With special performances and behind-the-scenes footage.

Saturday 4th October

Strictly Come Dancing
6.45pm - 8.00pm - BBC One

Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly host the celebrity ballroom dancing competition, as the seven remaining male stars dance either a jive or a tango. Judges Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tolioni are on hand with their comments - who will impress the panel, and who will leave them cold? Meanwhile, the remaining female celebrities perform another spectacular group dance.

The X Factor
7.45pm - 9.15pm - ITV1

It's crunch time for the remaining hopefuls, as they visit the judges' houses to sing for a place in the final stages of the competition. Louis Walsh is in Ireland, Dannii Minogue is in St Tropez, Cheryl Cole is in Cannes and Simon Cowell is in Barbados. Each of them is joined by a celebrity expert who helps them make their crucial decisions. For the contestants, it's the opportunity of a lifetime as they try to win a place in the live shows.

Sunday 5th October

The X Factor
6.10pm - 7.10pm - ITV1

It's make or break time for the X Factor hopefuls as they find out whether they have made the live shows or whether their dream is over and they are heading home. After their final performance, the agonising wait to find out begins. But they aren't the only ones under pressure as with only three places in each category, Simon, Dannii, Louis and Cheryl have some big decisions to make. This year's final 12 will be revealed by the end of the show.

Strictly Come Dancing
8.10pm - 9.00pm - BBC One

Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly host the celebrity ballroom dancing competition. The seven remaining male stars and their professional dance partners battled it out with a jive or a tango and now the two couples with the lowest combined judges' score and viewer votes must perform again in the dance-off, with only one being saved by the judges. Who will be sent home? With special performances and behind-the-scenes footage.

Saturday 11th October

6.50pm - 8.05pm - BBC One

Live from BBC Television Centre, Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly host the dance extravaganza in which the remaining 13 celebrity couples compete for the coveted title of Strictly Come Dancing champions.

Judges Arlene Philips, Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli cast a professional eye over the performances.

Saturday 27th September Overnights

19.45- The X Factor: 8.18m (36%) * peak: 9.33m (41.4%) at 20.10

Strictly Come Dancing wins the night. It's 0.6m up on last week, and the most watched second show of any Strictly series. In the 20 minutes that the two programmes were head-to-head, Strictly had 8.25m to X Factor's 7.27m.

I hate it that they're on at the same time or overlap as I watch them both! Stupid ratings wars just annoy the viewer when we want to watch both shows.

I have to tape Strictly and watch it later because my daughter doesn't like it so we watch X Factor together. If she was out I'd probably watch Strictly and watch the re-run of X Factor on Sunday while she's at work.

Takes some organising all this! I just think it's silly because both programmes are the best viewing on a Saturday night. And when I turn off to watch the video of Strictly they've lost me as a viewer on both channels anyway!

I think its fantastic that Strictly was yesterdays top show on any network in the UK.

X Factor is incredibly strong this year and it'll be interesting to see if the live editions fare as strongly when they kick off in 2 weeks time.

Why not......it`s done it every other year..........I`am not a fan of the X-factor but I know many viewers like to watch both, so I`v never understood why the BBC and ITV don`t come to some sort of Gentleman's/Ladies agreement that ensures the two shows don`t clash.

Strictly Come Dancing: Results
8.15pm - 9.00pm - BBC One

Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly present the results from the fourth round of the celebrity ballroom dancing competition. The female celebrities and their partners danced a quickstep or a rumba during the live show, and your votes have been counted. The two stars with the lowest number of votes must face each other in a dance-off, with only one being saved by the judges. Who will be thrown out of the competition for good? Plus, more special performances and behind the scenes footage from Round 4.

Saturday 17th October

Strictly Come Dancing
6.05pm - 7.35pm - BBC One

The showdown continues, live, from BBC Television Centre in London and, this week, nobody is safe from elimination as the remaining celebrity couples compete for the coveted title of Strictly Come Dancing champions.

Tonight, for the first time, both the men and women compete and it's everyone for themselves as they fight to win the judges' praise – and the vital audience vote – to stay in the competition. Arlene Philips, Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and head judge Len Goodman critique the remaining 12 couples and Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly present the glittering dance extravaganza.

I've gotta say that England World Cup qualifier clash does look like it could well dent Strictly, I realise that they have different audiences but its quite a clash none the less. No X Factor clash, just the footy to contend with!

I don't understand how X-Factors stale old format can still be attracting viewers?

Strictly is now catching up, though I must admit when I watched TXF last night, I was thinking "it's gotten so boring again". And it has. Hopefully, it will get more exciting.

One could argue that Strictly is stale, especially as the results show are 1 hour long, which some say is too much!

Both shows have increased in popularity in the last 5 years- it's unusual, as most shows have been declining. I think these type of shows give people are good escape route from the harsh realities of the world right now. It's event-tv.

I also think with the X Factor being on at a later time has helped increase the % of viewers watching the show. But i expect once the X Factor live show get's underway, SCD would probably get the higher ratings - like it has done so many times in the past.

I used to be a fan of both, but X Factor has just become too repetitive and predictable. Sob stories galore, acts churning out the same old songs and having the same old hysterical reactions to the judge's comments.

There is a greater uncertainty and variety within Strictly and the contestants are well-known celebrities as opposed to wannabes. I just can't seem to tire of it.

Hi Hera

I agree - and especially when the male and female celebrities combine and the competition really gets under way.

I think once both shows get into full flow, their ratings will increase even further.

But I must say, I think The X Factor will win the ratings battle this year. It's just so strong this year and has won 4/5 of the clashes so far. The later slot also obviously helps its ratings, as last night the shares were only 1% apart but viewers were 0.6m apart!

I am a fan of both shows but this year, the X Factor seems to have lost the edge it has had in the past. And with a lot of weak contestants (i think Cheryl has the strongest category this year with the girls), and a lot of them constantly crying and going for the sympathy vote is making me switch over.

SCD is the one to watch this winter with the competition so strong and fiercer than ever.
