Capital aims to restore young adult appeal

Forbes: taking over weekend breakfast show with Andi Peters

Emma Forbes and Andi Peters, who made their name fronting BBC kids morning show Live & Kicking, are to be reunited as the presenters of Capital FM's weekend breakfast show as part of a wholesale schedule revamp by the London station.
• The changes add to the woes of former Big Brother winner Kate Lawler, whose Hit Music Sunday, the radio show she co-hosts with Peters, was dropped by Capital yesterday. Her Channel 4 breakfast show, RI:SE, was axed on Friday
• The recently appointed managing director, Keith Pringle, has approved a string of changes to the existing schedule in an effort to broaden its appeal among its core audience of 25- to 34-year-olds.
• The station has seen rivals such as Emap's Kiss threaten its popularity among younger listeners and has been accused by some advertisers of letting its audience grow old without replacing them.
• A Capital spokeswoman said the new schedule had been designed to "fit in with the lifestyle" of the core audience. Lawler will present a series of specials for the station, but will not have a regular slot, she added.
• "When you're the most listened to station in town its easy to stick with a tried and tested formula. However, we know that to stay ahead of the rest we need to be constantly innovating and evolving to keep pace with London and Londoners," said Mr Pringle.
• "The development of our music policy and new shows across evenings and weekends will highlight our passion for music across the spectrum and give listeners the quality radio they deserve," he added.
Ratings for Capital's London station dipped to an all-time low last May, with its market share falling from 8.8% to 8.1%, but it has since recovered to 8.9%, according to the latest Rajar results.

Shows you that as a presenter, you can't just relax, sit back, and think you've "made it" because you present a TV show nowadays.

It's a fickle industry and you have to be at the top of your profession.

Of course, if Kate has been trying her hardest to improve her presenting skills, teaching herself new knowledge regarding the media, maybe learning a few research skills, and generally seeing ways in which she can broaden her horizons,..perhaps even putting together a long term plan..then she'll be okay and have no problem in the future.
I'm sure she's approached her career in a very professional way, and we'll see how versatile she really is.

It goes without saying that she probably looked beyond RI:SE, and explored ways of improving her employability,......
..........she would have to be completely stupid not to have done.

The world is definitley a wonderful place for Kate Lawler.

The 2 jobs that she will be leaving will be replaced, by TOTP's and her new 'Special' spot for the station. No doubt, she will return to a regular slot on Capital Radio when her early morning TV show goes off air in December.

Does anyone remember her having a go at Jade (at least, I think it was Jade) when she made her nose a bit too big on the puppet? Kate was going on about how she doesn't have a big nose, she has a small nose etc and fair enough, it isn't a humungous conk, but it does have a touch of the 'boxers nose' about it.

Pointless remark, I know but that photo just took me back.

I don't believe I am going to say this, but I actually feel a bit sorry for Kate, although I believe she brought it on herself, She must have known about losing her regular radio slot for some time now, as I think this may be why Andi Peters helped get her the TOTP's job, to compensate. Not the best job he could have found her, but she really isn't suited to anything else.

I read somewhere yesterday online about the change around at capital, can't remember where I read it now though and was going to post a thread then, but changed my mind.

The trouble with Kate and why she will never make it as a presenter, unless luck is on her side, is she still acts like she is in the BB house at times and instead of distancing herself from ex bber's, invites them on the show, I am not talking about this years ex bber's and even has to invite family and boyfriends into the studio with her at times, other presensters don't do this, why does she?? I think she needs constant reasurance about herself. she needs to put BB behind her in her mind now and also needs to calm down, maybe act a bit more mature in her attitude towards other's, and definately get some advice on her appearance at times and advice on presenting, then maybe just maybe she may last the course, but I just can't see it myself.

I think since she has left the BB House, she has started speaking even more 'cockney wide boy' style.

I reckon she must think it makes her seem really down to earth and laddish, but I don't think she is doing herself any favours as most people would prefer to see a clearly spoken, articulate and eloquent presenter fronting a show, rather than a poor Del Boy impersonator minus the humour.

Lets remember how most posters only gave Kate two weeks in either job when she first started them (HOW WRONG WERE THEY!!!) it was intresting to see (and listen) to her grow from a rather nervy presnter to one of TV brightest stars.

I don't know if the TOTP thing is confirmed, but when your in Kates poistion you can pick and choose. I hear that she is going to present BB5, personally I think this would be a step down the ladder, and such thing should be left to the "lesser" presenters like Davina.

One things for sure, Kates future sure is bright

So true...."pick up a card you fancy from the display, love then take a ticket to see an advisor who'll sort you out...domestics and secretarial on the left, security and maintenance on the right"

Since Kate's gaffe yesterday morning - "Am I the only person in the world who hasn't heard of The West Wing" - I've been thinking about the way Kate presents RI:SE, or has been allowed to present it. Surely the producers have some part to play. TV and Radio presenters don't know about everything they have to talk about on air, but they do some quick research about what's coming up and thus appear knowledgeable and intelligent, even if they too have never heard of The West Wing.

It appears the producers have never insisted that Kate do any research, and perhaps encourage her to be totally honest and naive. They perhaps want her to come over as thick as a plank. This must, they hope, make the show "accessible" to other thickies.

Of course, if Kate now wants to progress with a media career, she'll have to take a more professional approach, and sharpish.

now wants to progress......

Do you not understand? Kate has already progressed from being just a BB HM, like Jonny and Alex (Sibley) still are, to being one of the UKs best known and loved presenters.

Track her career to date, its only going one way (and that up )

I believe Kate is now firmly established as a one of the UK best presenters. A sign of her natural talent is she has done all this in under one year! Her future sure is bright.

Tho I'm not that way inclined I prefer Kate to Iain (who is positively nauseating at times) but this person is surely in denial through shock.

I would love to be talking about BB4, but I can't because it was so crap, due to having crap HMs. Love 'em or hate 'em not one BB4 HM was as entertaining as
Alex/Jonny/Jade and even Sandy!
(NB the missing HM)

She was hired to look like an idiot so that Iain can take the piss out of her, to wear short shirts so that the lads can look up them and to bring attention to the show through her shameless publicity stunts. Presenting skills and research weren't necessary. All things considered she did her job.

Unfortunately for the RI:SE producers the viewers expected more than crap.
