In what sense do you think the TOTP job, if it comes off, would be 'huge'? I simply can't imagine how it could possibly be too much for Kate. It's not exactly a demanding job, even for someone of Kate's limited abilities. ”

We do not have the whole story yet but it must be big to make her risk her relationionship with capital where I am sure she has many friends after working there a year and was her bedrock.

i cannot believe it is the usual announcing on one show every few weeks(this could be combined with other jobs as the others do)

The BBC seem to be going for a major relaunch(my tip -move the main show back to Thursday)

the relaunch may have other promotional duties and radio options.-and hopefully they have not overestimated her appeal.

Any Radio 1 slots looking tired at the moment?

I do not see Kate as a BBC person however -I hope she will be happy there-Remember a lot of the arrows at her in the media are often made without knowing anything about her but are simply dissing BB by association.

I understood it was not Kate's decision, but Capital's.

Anyone who has watched RI:SE has legitimate reasons for 'dissing' Kate quite independently of any association with BB.

The earlier point(where is it?)
I think the BBC offer must have come up first.
When The Andi Peters announcement was made re BBC I am sure Capital would have wanted her to continue in the slot with someone else or maybe weekly guests.(I think it was one of their higher ranking shows)
She will be too high profile at the BBC for a headline show.
(Andi is able to do it as although he is re-jigging TOTP and has reccomended Kate as someone in touch with the bands and the fans he is not appearing and so is not a face associated with the show)

I refer you to the first post in this thread (by Tamara). That report makes it quite clear that Kate did not jump, but was pushed.

Previous TOTP presenters - even genuinely high-profile ones - have been able to secure and hold down radio jobs at the same time, even on national radio.

You guys are making it sound like Kate hasn't made it! no more effort is needed by Kate as she is now established "A list".

When Kate first took on the Capital and RISE jobs, you were all falling over youself to post that neither job would last two weeks (in the mistaken belief that it was what Alex (sibley) would want you to do). So much for your predictions.

I'm no media guru but don't these sorts of things happen all the time presenters come and go, shows come and go. Its not even as if she hasn't got anything lined up, mind you she deserves a holiday, it will be well earned snd she has a very busy 12 months ahead of her. God knows what heights she would have risen to by then.

Things havn't panned out the way we expected, we all wanted and expected Alex to be the huge star, but somehow it fell in Kates lap instead. Even if you don't accept it was Kates talent, then accept she was just lucky, either way accept it.

I don't know what Kate is doing but its clear what she couldn't do. When Kate took on RISE she couldn't cover for Penk on Capital as she was asleep in the evenings and he ended 4 hours before RISE seems to start rehearsals. She has been doing specials for Capital instead since she started RISE. When Andi got the BBC job Capital announced he was going and their sunday show would be done by Kate alone . Suggests they wanted to keep Kate - sensible as their ratings were up too. Kate now has RISE until practically the end of the year. If she has any other unknown job to go to before December she would be working a 6 day week so something would have to go.

Frankly we don't know enough to speculate. Why has Capital kept Andi on the books, why was he twinned with Kate and now Emma? Why did he and Kate suddenly start practicing telling the time for a period on their show then stop, why was Andi doing morning radio in Wales? How many jobs can he do? Thats before we get to wondering what Kate could do next.

PS whoever thought Kate had a Pat Bucher radio voice needs to listen more. She can go into South London but her radio voice is more radio 4/blue peter than most of the radio 1 djs.

Since Kate's gaffe yesterday morning - "Am I the only person in the world who hasn't heard of The West Wing" - I've been thinking about the way Kate presents RI:SE, or has been allowed to present it. Surely the producers have some part to play. TV and Radio presenters don't know about everything they have to talk about on air, but they do some quick research about what's coming up and thus appear knowledgeable and intelligent, even if they too have never heard of The West Wing.

It appears the producers have never insisted that Kate do any research, and perhaps encourage her to be totally honest and naive. They perhaps want her to come over as thick as a plank. This must, they hope, make the show "accessible" to other thickies.

Of course, if Kate now wants to progress with a media career, she'll have to take a more professional approach, and sharpish.
”

You are missing the point about RISE - its a daily two hour live morning show. Given that, it sounds as if they do it the only way they could - after one quick riun through every day. There is NO TIME to research what the West Wing is or discuss it like you would if you had a weekly show like Ross or Parkinson ( West Wing audiences are probably lower than RISE's so why would she know? ) Nor does she have time to get an atlas out and find out where Inverness is - she knows its in Scotland which is all 99.9% people in London would know. I don't know where it is either because it is something no sensible person would clutter their brain with.. Kate actually does kinow her stuff on current music and films which is precisely what I would tell her to concentrate on.

Frankly it doesn't matter anyway. As any of the Aunty's bloopers series or Norton's shows prove, most news and talk shows would be full of similar gaffes if they were shown live. Compared with CBBC or CITV which are the breeding ground of future presenters, RISE for its length is actually pretty low on gaffes per hour. It also is the only show that allows its hosts to corpse each other, its guests and its supporting presenters -which actually explains many of the "faux mots"

I think since she has left the BB House, she has started speaking even more 'cockney wide boy' style.

I reckon she must think it makes her seem really down to earth and laddish, but I don't think she is doing herself any favours as most people would prefer to see a clearly spoken, articulate and eloquent presenter fronting a show, rather than a poor Del Boy impersonator minus the humour.
”

Still, at least she will get a job as a market trader when the media work dries up completely.

Yes I know loads of gaffes are made by other presenters, and also that if presenters pretend they know all about something when all they've done is 5 mins "research" they're being a bit hypocritical.

However, Kate just shows no nous about anything. If The West Wing had just come up in a conversation about another topic altogether there would be some excuse. However on Monday morning they were linking with the US re the Emmy Awards; surely the least she could have done was check the shortlsted programmes and find out a bit about them. 10 mins would have been long enough.

But perhaps she thinks it somehow cool to be so stupid.

Why does a TOTP presenter need to know the past and present history of pop music?

All the presenter does basically is introduce the next act and as there are only about 5 or 6 acts per show the presenter will probably only be speaking for about 5 or 6 minutes total.

Everything will be scripted and rehearsed, so all Kate has to do is look sparkly and enthusiastic...................she can handle that can't she..............it's not rocket science..................has somebody already said that?

Indeed, lulu - bystander puts the whole controversy into perspective, as usual

What the hell does it matter if Kate has never heard of The Happy Mondays - they're not going to be on TOTP are they ?

And if they do turn up I'm sure she'll manage to pronounce the name right

Quite, she's getting ditsier by the day and was thrilled this morning to be named third in the 'unthinking man's woman' poll - she just wasn't sure whether it was better to be after Jade or not.
Ah well I suppose it's all press coverage.......
She doesn't know any music or bands prior to the last couple of years, she doesn't know any history as she didn't study it and wasn't born then, she did study geography but doesn't seem to know any - I'm surprised she hasn't started saying - 'I dunno, I wasn't born there........'

coz its called having presenter credibility...
or more importantly lack of incredibility

or likewise Jade 'd be a fine choice to present Mastermind,
coz all she gotta do is be able to read the cards, so why not
