Sky Sound thru PA System
I hope someone can help with this query.
At my golf club, we have recently installed a large 50" TV - connected with Scart to a Sky box. We have also put the older TV at the other end of the room and wired it to the Sky RF Out with a coax - so we can see the same picture as on the the main TV. What we would now like to do is play the sound thru the PA system that is installed in the club. This system is an 'INKEL' PA4000R Public Address Receiver. It already has a separate CD player connected, plus a separate wireless mic unit. I dont have the manual for the PA system. Is there a way to connect the sound from the Sky box to this unit - and if so how? Phil |

If the PA system has an audio input or inputs then yes, just connect a pair of phonos upto the audio outputs (red/white) on the back of the Sky box.

Thanks for prompt response Deacon.
So would it be 2 connectors at the Sky end - and 2 at the amp ? I've looked at the back of the Amp and there are no 'sockets' as on the Sky box - just a load of terminals. I suppose i just strip the wires and connect that way do I ? Phil |

It might just be a single connection on the PA system.
How is the CD player connected? This may give you a clue as to where/how to connect the outputs from the Sky box. |

I shall go down tomorrow and have another look. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction though.
I'll let you know the outcome. Phil |

On the back of the Sky box there are two phono sockets which output stereo audio.
The PA amp will almost certainly have sockets on the back to connect an external CD player or cassette deck, either two phonos (like the Sky box), or a single DIN socket. There should be a control on the front to set the volume of it, labelled, Tape, CD, Aux - something like that (in any case, labelled the same as the socket on the back). The screw terminals are almost certainly for the speaker connections, different impedances or 100V line. |

There's a chance that this might be a power amplifier (although "receiver" probably suggests otherwise).
There are a couple of other things to consider: - 1. Does it have a "pre-amp" stage? 2. A true public address system may have balanced inputs, and special 3 pin connectors may be required. It might only work with a mixing desk with lots of channels and inputs that could be mixed together - something like that which a band would use in a live gig - or in a studio. |

From the description given, it looks pretty obvious this is the first case - band PA systems don't have radio. As such, it will almost certainly have phono or DIN inputs for an external source. |

Ok Guys - I now have looked closely at the PA - and even have photos of the back but not sure how toupload these.
There is a bank of screw type connectors called 'Called Speaker Output' - with COM, sp1, sp2 etc.. assume these are outputs. There is a bank of 4 socket holes labelled 'Link out', Link In', 'Amp In', and 'PreImp In'. These are quite big holes compared to the ones on the sky box There are also some pairs of screws that I guess could have wire connected to - labelled 'EXT CHIME' 'EXT MUTE' 'MUSIC ON HOLD' and 'TEL IN'. On the right there are then a bank of 6 large connectors - with plugs already in - labelled "CH1 -- Gain -- Mic Att"; CH"..etc.. I hope this helps - and would appreciate any advice for getting the Sky suond thru this device if possible Phil |

Ok - so the big ones are what should be used are they - not the AMP IN ?
The connectors in these big ones have a 3 pin connector on - does this help at all ? If these are the correct ones then is it possible to get a cable that has the right connectors on each end ? Phil |

Phil ![]() As you say, all the inputs (the ones labelled CH1 to CH6) are in use, where it should go is in CH6, as AUX. What are all the inputs connected to?, do you have five different microphones connected to it? (I'm presuming the CD player is connected to CH6). |

Just had a flash glance - my effort:
From what I can gather, you have two options: The way you have the CD player connected will probably be using RCA phono connectors. You could simply buy a switch box http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tv...ml?id=tdLjCLbX and plug this into where the CD player is connected now. Then you would connect the CD player and Skybox to the new switch box. The other way, will be using the 1/4 jacks. If you want to do it properly and get stereo sound, you will need http://www.djdeals.co.uk/prod-images...kmainimage.gif - one pair of ends into your skybox, the other ends into your Inkel amp. You will need to adjust the gainknobs on the rear of the Inkel to go from Mic to Aux. |
