What's best PSP or IPOD Touch for movies
Tanis

I currently have a PSP and I'm keen on having movies to watch as I do a lot of travelling for work

I know Go view has just been launched for PSP but the offering seems poor compared to ITunes.

Given this I'm thinking of buying an IPod Touch.

Would appreciate people thoughts on hardware comparisons on watching movie and general costs?

Thanks in advance

For pure simplicity the Ipod Touch wins hands down, however the PSP can play games and of course there is Firmware avaliable which makes it fun.

Really depends on where and what movies you are watching (i.e. where the source comes from).

Whats your source for your movie files?

If they're normally divx/xvid downloaded files, you'll need to convert them all before they'll play on a touch. (Apple don't support divx)

Dunno about divx on the PSP but the battery life for video on that is pretty poor.

If it's a movie oriented device you're after, I'd say the current offerings from Cowon (I have their A2. Divx, AC3 and subs all supported and STILL the best battery life for video on the market - 10 hours - that I'm aware of) and Archos (excellent if you want to do a lot of PVR style recording from, say, a Sky box) are better than the touch and the PSP.

i have ipod 5th gen (classic style) and a psp slim and i only watch video on my ipod. I would have vids on my psp but when ive encoded video (recorded on my laptop via freeview) i to h264 ready for the ipod, the video never plays on my psp! i think theres a sony detection system when it reads an apple codec.

i also fined the refresh rate of the psp screen quite poor.

I'd say the PSP, the screen is better, and due to get better with the newer models, as for the Movie Services, people actually use them?? I've never used a film service, I just rip my own DVDs to the thing!

Id say iPod Touch.

Up to 32GB storage for your videos
Better, albeit smaller screen than the PSP, also switches to full screen when horizontal
Better software in iTunes
But of course, the PSP is also great for vids too, plus its a great gaming machine too. But for me, just for movies, the Touch gets it.

I watch films on my PSP over my iPod. It's just I like the large, excellent quality screen of the PSP-2000, and the battery is good for 2 films when on a journey, so that's good enough for me.

PSP has a 480x272 screen compared to the iPod Touch 480 x 320 and unless Sony changed it you cant even use the max screen res for movies that aren't on UMD.

I watch movies on my iPhone often and they are very good quality and the screen isn't to small when your holding it so close. Also its alot more portable than the PSP.

i use the belkin aa battery adaptor for ipod video - basically, unlimited power (providing u have aa batteries to hand) - 4 aa alkaline batteries are equivilant to a fully charged ipod battery.

Touch for me, brilliant device, actually use a piece of PSP software to rip my DVD's and they go on my Touch with no problems

If the Ipod touch can have movies transferred to it from a computer, then I would go for the Ipod touch, simply because you can't transfer movies to the PSP from a computer........not to my knowledge anyway.

er yes u can/... connect usb to psp, drag drop mpg4 video into the movie section of the memory stick>?

note: i have many video files encoded using my mac - none of them play on my psp - even the small, low kbps ipod playable videos i have!
