Are they worth the money?

Just seen a set of 6 in Costco going for £165. I am very tempted as I need some good knives. But they don't have any to play with to get a feel for.

I'm not sure you need the 6 peice set. I got the 3 Piece set years ago and those 3 were fine. Gave two away because I only wanted the big one.

They seem to have rocketed up in price.
I got the set for £76.51 from a now defunct site called CookCraft. They are £130 now

They are very good knives but it depends on you. Different knives have a different feel. For instance, Global have stainless steel handles instead of wood.

See if you can get to a shop or department store where you can pick one up for a feel of it.

Edit: Just had a browse and £165 is a very good price

My ex was a head chef and he SWORE by these knives. They also offer a lifetime guarantee on sharpening too - i am not sure if that is standard or not with decent good quality knives or not but I think it is a bonus!

I understand the Globals are very light and not everyone gets on with the handle.

I think most of the decent brands have a lifetime guarantee, I know my Henckels do.

Remember, whatever knives you buy, you need to sharpen them regularly otherwise they will be useless. I use a set of cheap knives I got from Argos in the sale, but i've got a professional sharpener and they are as sharp as any i've ever had.

Well went into Costco today, and made them go and get a set of the knives out. Wasn't overly impressed. The blades look nice but the handles just felt too skinny for me, must be girly knives So will stick with what I have for the moment, at least until I find some really nice knives I want.

I much prefer the Victorinox Fibrox knives. At least the handles are non-slip... and they're about a quarter of the price.
