I'm thinking about switching networks from Orange to o2 next month - partly because I'm having trouble with International Calls on Orange, and partly because I want to get a fancy new phone for not much money!

I am, however, anxious about leaving Orange, as generally I've found them very good. Has anybody made a similar move? If so, what are the pros/cons of o2 over orange - customer services, network coverage etc?

Also, and forgive me if I should start another thread for this, if I do move, which phone should I get - the SE T610 or the Nokia 7250i? I have a Nokia 6310i at the moment, so am erring towards staying with the same brand, but I've heard good things about the T610.

This mobile stuff, eh? What a nightmare!

Many thanks.

I work for orange and i'd say the T610 is the better phone, cheaper, POP3 email, bluetooth, bigger screen.

As for leaving for O2, well before you make your final decision figure out what they are offering you, then phone Orange upgrades, they will likely give you a Free of charge upgrade if you are out of contract, and Orange will match any tarrif other than 3s (actually, retentions/diconnection depts do have some tarrifs on offer similar to 3's, but will only offer them to 'high value' customers, others they will just let disconnect.)

Orange have the advantage of being the Network and the Service provider,

Your experience with O2 will depend alot on your Service Provider (of which there are many) but if you have a problem thats not immidiately apparant as network or billing, expect to follow this infinte loop:-

10 Service Provider-> thats a network issue, talk to them

20 Network->thats a subscription problem, talk toy your service provider

30 goto 10

of course i may be cynical and biased but i was an O2 customer and this happened to me many times, other O2 service providers may be better though.

Also, Orange offer things like an emergency replacement phone, if you DONT have insurance, for £60 or £30 and 12 months subscription to insurance, any other network would just go 'oh well thats tough, buy a sim free one for £200+'

Thanks DarkStar.

I've heard that Orange have recalled the T610 - can't seem to get it as an upgrade option on their website (or carphone warehouse's). Is this true?

And do you know what the magic words are that I have to utter to get a free upgrade? Normally there's a phrase that CS people are trained to respond to (I don't mean this to cause offence, just from past experience with other call centres) and offer more than they normally would.

Cheers.

yeah, 'i wanna disconnect' normally gets them!

That way they transfer you to retentions rather than upgrades, who can offer you more. just act all like 'oh i'm moving to O2 cause i get a free T610 and whatever tarrif' and they will say they can do that too etc.

If your average monthly bills are more, they will offer you more.

The T610 was recalled because SE notified us that a number of the chargers had been catching fire, and Orange had a kinda knee-jerk 'recall everything' inital reaction to it. the faulty chargers have now been replaced and the issue is resolved.
