Malice Mizer- Beast of Blood: Because the band look amazingly striking in it. And it's fascinating in itself how much Mana, the guitarist, looks like a girl.

Malice Mizer- Kyomu no Naka de Yuugi: Because the band look hypnotisingly striking in it. Mana still looks like a girl, but now so do the others. That doesn't matter though. It just makes them look more amazing than ever.

Dir en Grey- Obscure: It's scary, but in quite a clever way. It is very gory, but not in such a way that it gets boring. It's very inventive.

Anything by Tool:-They're freaky, but you have to love their weird creatures really. Even if they usually end up falling to bits, or getting impaled or dismantled.

Tourniquet- Marilyn Manson: Hugely underrated. His scariest video IMO. It's main character is a Blue, legless creature that looks like it was stolen from a Tool video gone wrong. This creature is meant to be helpless, and Manson looks after it, but an apparent role-reversal towards the end leave a smaller version of the creature looking on as Manson has a seizure.

Sweet Dreams- Marilyn Manson: Creepy and Random. Old-fashioned swimming costumes, pig riding, wandering around by the side of the road in a tutu, disappearing down a drain, kneading his stomach, turning into a demon halfway through... you can't go wrong really.

Frontier Psychiatrist- The Avalanches: Just random. Very random. A bird and a chimp having a fight? Mexicans? Ghosts? Giant Babies? It also fits the song exceptionally well.

Hunter- Bjork: Strangely hypnotising. Her sharp head movements are pretty impressive. The CGI isn't bad either.

Bjork- Hidden Place: Same. It's amazing how interesting it can be watching Bjork cry rainbow ink, and then follow it as it goes in and out of her face, faster and faster.

Triumph of a Heart- Bjork: I never get fed up with watching it.

Babylon AD- Cradle of Filth: Ditto. Although it's slightly infuriating as it leaves you on a cliffhanger.

One- Metallica: The most harrowing video ever made. I don't think I need to explain why.

I walk Alone- Tarja Turunen: Simple, but lovely storyline to it. Girl and Boy get lost in woods. They get scared, then, thanks to Tarja in a ginger wig, they calm down and are reunited. The bit that really gets me, though, is when the girl sees her Brother being led away deep into the woods.

Sonne- Rammstein: Doesn't make a lot of sense- what has a twisted version of Snow White got to do with the sun? But it's exceptionally well made.

I'm Not OK- My Chemical Romance: Genuinely funny- jumping out of lockers, rugby-tackling the school mascot. Makes you jump a bit when Gerard comes in so close to the camera he practically knocks it over, but you get used to that.

Daft Punk - Around the World.

As a music video, it's almost the perfect literal accompaniment to the song.

Seconded... when I first saw this video I did think it was a trailer for a movie. (Although I wasn't aware of the band at the time)

Some of what I think are the greatest:
Fatboy Slim - Don't Let the Man Bring You Down
Ultravox - Love's Great Adventure (THE first music video I ever remember seeing!)
30 Seconds To mars - The Kill (Reminds me of The Shining)

But My favourite... a truly awesome 10 minute long music video by a french artist called Mylene Farmer.

Godley and Creme, Cry

Video morphing primitive by today's standards but a great idea, well executed with the technology available.

Aha's "Take on me". Over 20 years old now. Was pretty WOW with the graphics at the time and still looks pretty good today...

In terms of impact Id say Thriller although I remeber not being absolutely gobsmacked by it at the time...

IMO Thriller is overrated, Smooth Criminal is a lot better.

Probably going to get hammered for this but Paula Abduls's video for Opposites Attract is pretty good- the one where she dances with the cartoon cats

'Scream' by Michael Jackson is the most expensive music video ever created. I think it's the best.

Great videos are the ones which are very visually striking like Radiohead's Street Spirit or technically clever like The White Stripes' The Hardest Button To Button but occasionally really good videos can be deceptively simple, like Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares To You.
