Amanda Hamilton - Ex veggie eating meat

09-09-2008
I was just watching Something for the Weekend and Simon Rimmer made Teryaki Beef. These were seared and basically rare. Good stuff

Amanda Hamilton, who was a veggie but has started eating meat, said that she wouldn't try it because it was rare and that she was moving slowly into trying meat dishes.
I recall that a few months back they had Steak Tartare and she flatly refused to try that.

Anyway, I was wondering about veggie throughts on eating meat. I would have thought that having the meat "Au Naturale" would be a good starting point instead of tough, overcooked meat.

I was brought up on tough, overcooked food, any trace of pink in beef or lamb wasn't tolerated and it was only in my teens when I started to eat steaks medium rare.

I'm dissapointed now when I have a steak that is overly pink.

Just wondered about your views

I've never been a veggie, but I too was brought up on overcooked food. To the point that roast beef was crumbly. I don't think I even realised that roast beef could be pink until I was in my teens. My mum still cooks it this way, I just love a good rare steak, however getting a good one isn't always easy, but when I do it's just brilliant. Mmmm

Rare steaks in a pub/restaurant around here are a rarity

The best i've had recently was from a 2-4-1 pub. I aked for rare and was expecting meduim at best. This thing was still mooing! Great steak for the price. It came out around £6.50 for 10oz Sirloin, 2 (small) Jacket spuds, peas, mushrooms, tomatoes.

Just watched last weeks show and they had Tuna tartare (ahi poke) which she didn't seem to have a problem eating.
