The title says it all.

I love my cat to bits but lately he's been testing my patience limits. Essentially he sleeps all day. By the time I'm ready for bed, he's ready to go out and about.

I've got no problem letting him roam around at night as I'm in a quiet and safe area with a good sized garden.

The problem is that he's not very sociable with others cats. So, at 4am for the last few mornings, I've heard nothing but that low moaning/groaning/warning noise they make when meeting another cat. Try sleeping with that under your window sill. Not fair on my neighbour either although she hasn't complained......yet! Another trick of his is to sit on my conservatory roof ( semi detached two storey home)and meow non stop until I open the window for him to jump in, even though the window he uses downstairs to exit is open!

I'm constantly being woken up at various times during the night

To counter this, I closed all exits before I went to bed and left it at that. Bad idea. The bugger spent hours wondering around the house, meowing, jumping up on to windows to have a look outside and generally making a noise.

Aargh.

Any cat owners had this problem before?

Suggestions and advice welcome!

TL
ps: in January my other half wants to get a golden lab puppy. I'm all for it but will I never sleep again after that?

Is there a new Tom in the area? maybe there's a bit of a turf war going on in which case they'll hopefully soon sort it

Oh I hope he sorts it.
Actually, there are two male tabby cats who are not agressive at all. Usually my cat fights with all males but he's been quite good with these ones. No fighting or anything, just that awful low groaning sound at 4am.......just what i need.

It's not the most pleasant sound .
My Thomas would sometimes do this and I'd end up having to go outside and bring him in , don't really know what to suggest it stopped after a while.
Nanny Ogg's idea sounds worth a try even if you have to wake the lovely boy up and physically put him outside like on the flinstones

He has settled in for the night a few times although he seems to prefer the idea of going out at night. Good idea though. When i get home from work he'll probbaly be asleep. I'll pick him up and put him out......payback for disturbing my sleep time

Pay back sounds good !!! ha ha he maybe a bit like "WTF" when you first do it ......... well at least mine was he hung around the back door for the first few days thinking I was going to let him back in and even thought I could see his pink nose pressed against the glass saying "please let me in my paws are cold and I will be good" I knew it was all a front and never gave in to him !! ha ha now he is as good as gold

Kick him out in the day and then keep him in at night?

Same with mine, they used to go out at night, then I had to keep them in so I could inject the diabetic one. Left to his own devices, he stays out for days! I got them into the habit of expecting a treat when they came in around midnight before we went to bed. It took a couple of weeks, but now they're sitting there with their knives and forks at the ready, waiting for me. While they're eating, I lock the cat door, then shut them up in the conservatory for the night. They settle down and go to sleep quite happily, and are given another treat in the morning and shoot off through the cat door for the day.

Is there anyway you can try and get him to go out in the day and then keep him in, both mine are out and about in the garden all day unless the weathers bad but I get them in normally before it get's dark unless they decide to be little buggers and keep running off and chasing moths and stuff and then they settle down for the night and then sleep in my room when I go to sleep.

Right!

Worked on changing his routine...a little bit.

Got home from work just after 6pm and found the cur asleep on the bed.
Put outside and he disappeared until 11pm.

He the slept through the night and only got up to go walkabout outside after 6am. Didnt even hear him after that.

Thanks for the suggestions about changing his routine, seems to work well

Only woke up twice last night on my own accord.
