My DVDs play only in black & white on my TV
In my troubleshooting guide it says "Depending on the TV, the picture on the screen becomes black and white when you play a disc recorded in the NTSC color system." But it doesn't say what I should do.
Does this mean my TV is too old to play in that mode? Does it mean I need a newer DVD player? I gather most all DVDs are recorded in NTSC. I haven't used this DVD player in about 4 years - it used to work fine. Help is appreciated! |

All DVDs recorded in America and certain parts of the far east will be in NTSC. If you do have a lot of NTSC discs imported from abroad, it may be worthwhile considering buying a new DVD player - ones that cost less than a tenner in Asda will be more than capable of hacking to become multi-region (so it can play back region 1 DVDs) and will be capable of playing back NTSC discs in PAL-60 format - which an older TV should be capable of displaying in colour. Or get an LCD or Plasma TV - they are all capable of displaying NTSC discs in colour. |

NTSC colour is only a factor if you are using composite, almost all DVDs that you buy in this country will not be NTSC anyway. |

Check the players video output, it could be set to S-Video and you have it connected to a composite/RGB connection.
NTSC is normally found on USA discs and some discs from Asia, UK use the PAL format. It would be more helpful if you supplied the TV and DVD players make and model number. |

S-video does play as black and white if the AV socket is not set to S-video in.
On my Panny when you select outputs sometimes you need to select the input and toggle round possible variations. So I might have green for AV2 and press green again for AV2s which is s-video. When I first selected Av2 my s-video input was black and white until I realised that I needed to select it again for s-video. |
