I got the Toshiba and my sisters got the Samsung, I set both of them up,

I gotta say the Tosh knocks spots of the Samsung on both SD and HD.

The Samsung LE40A656 got a 5/5 on its Tech Radar review and DooYoo also gave the Toshiba 40ZF355DG on their review, so I think it depends upon what features are more important to you, thus you can place more of an emphasis on comparing specifics.
For me price is always an important factor, and given that the Samsung LE40A656 is available from Beyond Television for £746 and the Toshiba 40ZF355DG costs £899 from Amazon, I think I'd opt for the former
