xbox audio question
I currently have a simple 5.1 surround speaker system connected to my xbox via red and white cables.
Obviously this doesn't give me the true surround sound. If i were to buy something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Digital-Audio-...d=p3286.c0.m14 Connecting it via the optical output on the xbox would this give me true 5.1 for DVD's and games? Also is the best option without buying a whole new system? Thanks Dan |

Does your simple 5.1 system have a optical input? If it does all you will need is an optical cable. If not then I would probably say get a new system.

No it doesnt doesn't have an optical input.
So do you think I would be better with a new system? Can you recommend me one, with an optical input. Also can't be too expensive, haven't got a lot of money to spend |

AFAIK the XBox doesnt have a 5:1 output, So it would be simulated anyway.

Thats what the optical audio out is for! OP .... Whats your current basic 5.1 system? (ie. make & model) and what inputs does it have? If it has the standard analog inputs then the converter box the OP linked to in the first place (which presumably decodes the optical output into 5.1 channel analog) may actually work .... |
