Amcor Sat Nav Help
MMMojo1960
09-09-2008
I recently purchased an amcor sat nav from comet.

I cant find any map updates and the speed camera detector doesn't seem to work.

Has anyone got one, or any ideas how to update the software??

Thanks in advance.

You sure that's what it's called?

Only Amcor products I can find anywhere in the world (including Comet) are air con, heating and dehumidifiers. Nothing remotely resembling Sat nav???

Yes...

i think the website is "amcornavigation.com", but it offers no help.

See what you mean! And it does look like it is a division of the air con people you turn up googling Amcor!

Anyway if they do offer map updates they are hiding them well. In fact they don't appear to offer very much on the support page beyond manuals and lots of pretty pictures.

They claim to be using TeleAtlas mapping. But no mention of them on the TeleAtlas website. Then again the TeleAtlas website also fails to mention that they are now owned by TomTom, you'd think that would merit a passing mention in their "milestones page". Which kind of makes me wonder when the TeleAtlas site was last updated.

No. Just that the map data comes from the same source.

The navigation software will be specific to each manufacturer. And there is also the possibility that the map data is tweaked to suit each client as well.

So there is no real chance that you could load say TomTom software onto your device and it is also unlikely that you could load the TomTom versions of the maps either.

To be brutally honest I think you would have been better off sticking to one of the big names like TomTom, Garmin or NavMan. Their products may be a bit dearer, but at least they are supported.

Hi guys,

I have the Amcor 3750 from Comet also and wanted to use it with TT from my pda as a stand alone unit instead of the bundled package.
I tried for days to get TT to work and could never get past the No Maps Found message.

I decided to try again tonight and I eventually pieced together a number of tips I found and came up with a solution to resolve this issue.

This unit is essentialy a Myguide 3100 re-branded, and anyone who knows of this unit is aware that you can run TT from an SD card very easily. The workaround to enable this feature on the Amcor is as follows.

You will need:
A usb cable to connect the Amcor to a computer (check the type first if you need to buy one)
A copy of CERegeditor

Connect your Amcor to your PC and browse to the Resident Flash Folder on the device.
Copy the IGOPATH.txt file to your pc and open it with notepad.
Add the following line exactly as it is typed to the [Modules] Section
TomTom = "", "\\Storage Card\\TomTom.exe"
Copy and replace the IGOPATH.txt file back to the device.

I assume you already installed ceregeditor
Open it and connect to the unit, you will get a registry tree in the left hand window.
Browse to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\MMC
Double click on the key named "Folder" in the right hand window
Change the Value Data from "SDMMC" to "Storage Card" (No quotes "") Click OK
DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE
Do the same for SDMemory under the same HKEY it is 3 down from MMC
Again DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE

Close the CEregeditor.
Install or copy your TT to the SD card as you would normally do.
Reset the device and there you have it TT on an Amcor 3750

*Remember to change any reference to "SDMMC" in the IGOPATH.txt file to "Storage Card" or you may have problems with the unit.

If you want to know why, it is because TT looks for Storage Card or SDCard as a default and does not recognise anything else. So on the Amcor because the external card is called SDMMC it fails to see it.

If you are stuck just ask and I will do what I can to help you.

Personally I've found this unit to be most unreliable

I've had it for just over 2 years and recently went to use it, only to find it wouldn't power up. It was back for repair for the same problem last year only for Amcor (UK) to tell me it was a power adaptor fault.

Obviously since then Amcor no longer have a UK operation and therefore no support for customers!
