Hi all,

I am looking to buy a special remote multi region upgrade for a Panasonic Sa-ht990 DVD.

There is an other thread for this and I did post on it, but so far no replies. I thought that it might be because the original thread was misleading.

I know that you can buy these remotes for around £20, but was hoping that someone has bought one and could tell me if they work?

I think you hire the remote and that lets you do a one off program, then you send the remote back.

Hi YorkshireKat,

Any chance of having the web site
So far all the ones I've found need you to send it back and not as cheap as you found.

http://www.dvdchips.co.uk/

Returning it is optional - although I believe they supply you with a postage paid envelope for free return

as you can only use it a small number of times i presume you don't have many region 1 dvds to watch?

in which case why not rip the r1 dvds to your computer and re-write them region clear? theres plenty of free software you can download to do this if you don't already have some (eg DVD shrink), much cheaper than buying this device and you can watch them again and again.

Sorry Keefy-boy but I'm a little confused I thought that once you do the upgrade it will last until the DVD player dies.

You can, you only need to do it once.

Unless you waste lots of money on dual layer blanks the copies will only be 50% quality so whats the point?

Dual layer blanks cost 5 times as much as single layer and of course they wont be reusable.

Unless his R1 discs number single figures the remote is the best option

The reason I want to upgrade my DVD player is not essentially for R1, although I will be going down that road. The main reason is so that I can build up my Wu Shu collection and to do this it will mean ordering R3 as this is the region where they mainly originate. It takes a long time for these types of films to be released on R2 and most don’t even make it to R2 at all.

Thank you all for the feedback, it has been very useful.

I will be ordering a remote control for the upgrade.

Just an update,

I did order the remote from www.dvdchips.co.uk and all is well. Very quick and easy to do. Now the only problem is all those great Wushu R3’s I can now play will cost me a fortune to buy and I have my first one all ready
