Itunes installed Iphone firmware on my Ipod Touch!

Last night my ipod Touch crashed and I reset it and it would not go past the Apple logo.

I then set about restoring the device not realising there is a newer version (2.1) of the firmware which I merrily downloaded and installed. After that The Ipod seemed to work fine but Itunes said that the firmware needed reinstalling. I let it do it again and again and every time it would not sync and said it needed restoring.

I took it back to the local Istore and they said that I had installed Iphone software on the device.

I did not do this knowingly. I updated through Itunes and no other way. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Not entirely the same but after the last update my Touch now comes up with a message when I attach to ITunes suggesting a 'phone' has been connected and now gives me scanner options each time that I have to cancel through first !!!

This is on the last firmware update, not installed 2.1 yet.

iPhone 2.1 isn't even released until today as I recall.

If you're not happy with new(er) ipod touch firmware, you can always 'downgrade' to a previous firmware. Instructions for this process are readily available on youtube. I'm currently using firmware 1.1.5 although my touch says it's running 1.1.4 (for application purposes lol).
