Panasonic EX78EBK - newbie question!!

I'm not wonderfully technical so please be kind to me!

I'm looking at a PVR along the lines of a Panasonic EX78EBK which offers a music library facility, ripping music from CDs.

If I were to record from an audio freeview channel (such as Radio 4) does anyone know if this box would save that recording as an MP3 recording which could be easily burned to an audio CD or to an MP3 player via the USB port???

I hope this question makes sense.

The panasonic is not a pvr and no pvr's will rip to cd internally, the pvr records direct to a hdd with maybe only one or two with usb facilities.

Sorry, I may have used the wrong term. This model, a Panasonic EX78EBK, includes a 250GB hard disk which you can record onto from TV, and I thought this is a PVR. Sorry if this is wrong.

This model is, I believe, a DVD recorder in addition to having a hard disk.

According to the websites from Panasonic and the Co-Op, this machine will rip music from CDs and can be operated like a juke box.

I wanted to know if this box could record from the radio and store the audio file in MP3 (or other) format to then burn onto a CD. I think I may need to visit my local retailer to discuss.

There are several separate issues here.

The EX78 is not capable of actually recording anything in MP3 format.

It can play MP3's from discs and USB devices and copy MP3's to the hard disc from USB devices.

When it copies CD's to the hard disc it does so in CD audio format [ CD-DA]... and copies the whole CD.

Radio programmes can be recorded but are treated just like recorded TV programmes and can be copied to DVD ... but not CD.

Thereafter if you want the audio you would have to use a PC programme to extract the audio for converting and burning to CD if that would be your final chosen destination.

Thank you, Gavtech.

I had a feeling recorded radio programmes would be recorded just the same as a TV recording.

I'm looking for an easy way to record and store radio programmes. Any suggestions?

I don't think there is any way that does not involve a bit of fiddling... but once you have a system setup it can be done reasonably quickly.

You will need a DVD/CD burner on your PC and some disc authoring software [ such as Nero].

They are commonplace on PC's these days so I assume you already have that.

You need some audio extraction software. There are many that will do the job.
Maybe other contributors can come up with suggestions [ DVD Audio Extractor is one that comes to mind ] ...but they are rarely free.

However, I have discovered a 'free route'.

You can download a 30 day trial of AVS video converter. It includes an audio extractor - which will continue to work after the 30 day trial period has expired.

Download from Here

The process will involve first burning your radio programme onto a DVD. [Presumably a RW is the most convenient as it is just a transfer mechanism.]

Take the disc to the PC, locate and select the input file, and use the audio extractor.

To find the extractor press the 'Edit' button near the top right of the AVS screen.

You can extract either to uncompressed wav. format or to MP3.

Extract the audio to a store folder. Once you have a suitable amount you can burn those files to a CD using a standard authoring programme of your choice.

Good luck.
