divx dvd players-subtitles?
Hi
Am looking to buy a new dvd player which will play AVI files. Can anyone tell me if they generally will play an SRT subtitle file or is this i need to specifically look for. |

Pioneer dv400 will play the avi and the subtitle srt file,i haven't tried the cheaper model the dv300 which doesn't have usb support ,it should have the same subtitle feature though.
I would say it is something you have to read up on if you are looking at a variety of brands. All i know is the dv400 is fine. You can play video files back from usb pen drive,or a variety of sizes of powered external hard drive,i've had an 80gb drive and a 500gb drive working so far. |

Philips DVP5980 supports SRT subtitle files.
Still only £40 at Currys .... excellent player at that price! http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/stor...ory_oid=-30719 All the Xoro players support them too but they're not so easy to find in the UK. |

That Philips player looks like a great bargain, might go for that. Also saw this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...=13m9#features Same price.Any ideas which would be the best to plump for.

may'be i'm a brand snob, but i don't rate philips for anything, pioneer every time for me,and i don't know about the maplins player.
Even some of the philips dvd player comments on digital spy would put me off philips. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...ht=philips+dvd |

I wouldn't touch a Philips TV with a bargepole.
But .... their DivX DVD players are pretty decent. They've sold TONS of the DVP5960/80 so I daresay there'll be a few duds out there but given how many they've sold, thats not surprising. The Maplin one looks good as well though. I'd almost buy that myself! If I was able to take a disc to Maplin with me with a DivX file with QPEL and AC3 sound, and it played it, I'd buy it! |
