TomTom update issues!
Hi all,
Having some issues updating my Tomtom One. Im running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. Basically i can connect the TomTom, it all gets connected, but it says there are no updates from it, i have a little box on the pc screen saying my map has not been updated for 10 weeks and there are 6788 free mapshare corrections waiting, but when i click update my one, it scans and just says no updates, i dont even seem to get the GPS Quick Fix's. Anyone got any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks Marc |

Oh hum TomTom playing silly beggars again
![]() Chances are the MapShare servers at TomTom are down again (not that uncommon). Nothing you can do but try again, and again, and again.... GPS Quick fixes are not issued every day either so shouldn't be too worried about that. One way you can test if your device is talking to the TomTom servers is to run up Home and click on Add Maps. If that gives you an option to buy the latest maps then it is connecting OK. |

I assumed it was a server thing there end last time, but this is the 2nd or 3rd time ive tried it now in the past few weeks with the same result each time!
When i click on Add Maps it does indeed give the options to buy. |

TomTom's MapShare servers are a law unto themselves
Got to any of the specialist GPS forums on the web and you'll find no end of posts about how flaky they are. Nothing that unusual about not connecting. The only other thing that may work is to delete any and all MapShare corrections you currently have on the device. You do this from the Tools menu --> TomTom MapShare option in Home. First thing to check (just in case) is the How to Join option. If you are properly set up it should display a message saying you are already part of the MapShare Community. If it doesn't then that may explain why it doesn't work! While you are about it check the MapShare Preferences. It is possible to deselect every country in there which would pretty effectively disable the thing. Assuming that all is OK try the Remove Corrections option. Then try running the update again. That has been known to kick the update process into life. And the servers seem to be working at the time of posting as I've just updated my 730. |

I had a look at what you mentioned about selecting the country's, when i look in there i see "No items available" Any ideas how to make the UK available?! |

You wouldn't happen to have the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland map by any chance?
Because I have that one on my 730. On Sunday when I posted I had a section in MapShare preferences for the UK & ROI. Today it has vanished! It may or may not be related to something else I discovered today. TomTom have updated maps available - have been for a week or two now. Last week I had a look and I could swear there was a UK & ROI map upgrade available. Now though it does not exist! The nearest equivalent is Great Britain and the Republic Of Ireland. I am assuming the GB & ROI map replaces the UK & ROI map. Though one wonders if TomTom realise that GB and UK are not the same thing (well they are Dutch after all)

Doubt they will actually do anything.
I seem to recall something like this happening before. Only the other way round. ie start off with a GB & ROI map and it gets changed to UK & ROI. Maybe it's just a sneaky way to force an upgrade! Or maybe TomTom simply don't have any maps for Northern Ireland??? |
