Some people never learn . Breaking the rules means less marks which is also bad for his partner. Is he so selfish he doesn't care what happens to his partner !!

He might not necessarily break the rules though!

Not being funny, but he's not the only pro to have broken the rules, but because it's him, it gets publicised more.

He's the 'bad boy of ballroom'...it's his job to be the 'controversial' one.

I'm not mad keen on him but he keeps Strictly in the red-tops and z-ster mags and no doubt does his bit for the TXF ratings war effort.

He tries too hard to live up to the "bad boy" now.

Since James came on the show IMO.

Sorry Brendan, but James has the tattoo, he wins.

SCD need to get some other tagline, and I'm sorry but James is nastier and I think more violent, I don't think I've seen Brendan throw chairs or something around.

Him and James try to out-do each other with the amount of testerone flying around between them.

Although, much prefer Brendan's dances (including ballroom ones) to James'.

I hope not laura, because he's such a great dancer otherwise.

I hope not ! I think he could go far this year.

He is a wonderful dancer and he likes to be the bad boy.... lets hope Bruno doesn't do the same as last year.

He has to keep up this bad boy image and its a shame because he is such a good dancer.

Mind you, with Lisa talking about a possible romance in a daft girly American accent it looks like Kelly and Brendan all over again. Irritation factor: 10 points.

Brendan seems like he can't just let the dancing do the talking any more. He comes across as desperate to ensure that he's the one everyone is talking about and that he craves a celebrity status. He seems to think that the best way of doing this is to become 'the rebel' and cause unneeded controversy.

I think he's sorely mistaken however if he believes this endears him to the public. He's gone from my favourite dancer in the first series to the one I find most irritating.

He might be alright this year, I'm just waiting until the show starts. Like his partnership with Lisa Snowdon, although I think Brendan should also be coupled with someone older for a change.

Does no one stop to wonder how much the BBC manipulate the 'bad boy' image for the show and the ratings? Do you not think that the judges might be prompted to make some of the remarks they do to wind Brendan up as his outbursts make good TV?

They must record hours and hours of training but only show the times he loses his rag or they have an argument - Kelly said as much last year, they spend hours together and are bound to clash, unfortunately we generally only see the clashes not the hours of proper practice they put in.

I don't defend the third lift last year - it was silly BUT as someone else said other pro's also break the rules but get away with it.

I just wish people would give the couples a break and actually judge them on the DANCING not the contrived rubbish the BBC feed us to keep the interest high.

Both Claire King and Fiona Phillips were in their 40's which although isn't old isn't exactly a spring chicken either. He's actually only had two partners under 30 in all 6 series so you can hardly say he never gets anyone old.

Good points....I wish more people would think of this in relation to all the celebs and pros before just judging them as people on what they see on the VTs.

Sadly theres quite a bit of prejudice where Brendan's concerned. People look for the least little thing to criticise him for because of past shows

Which other Pros broke the rules? & when?

I know the show likes having a bad boy, however only Brendan can be blamed for putting in an extra lift, as he choreographed the routine. It wasn't necessary as it was a great dance.

If he chooses to break the rules, he should expect to be marked down. Simple as

To be fair he did say he expected to be marked down it wasn't Brendans fault stupid Bruno gave him the ten.

But if Brendan didn't put in the lift he wouldn't have got to be marked down! I am a fan of his dancing but he does ruin his chances sometimes. I think if he hadn't put in that third lift last year Kelly might have been more well liked.

I know people come on here and say "Oh I've met him in real life and he's really nice" but, if that's the case, I just wish he wouldn't insist on acting like such an irritating tosser. Sorry, but after however many series I am sick of his constant 'drama'.

He adds something to the series, like him or not. They all do. You would have to be pretty churlish not to enjoy watching any of them dance. They are fantastic.

I admit to being a Brendan fan but its a bit of a shame to see threads like this one. Even if he's not your cuppa, there are a fair few of us who like him.

Also I do think the BBC play the bad boy image up. He's hardly a bad boy these days - loved up and happy more like.

SCD is a bit of a panto to some extent and they've cast him as the baddie since series 1 - well we need one and I hear the devil is a great dancer

Brendan may have been cast as the baddie, but he also does his best to live down to the tag, too.

I don't get why his supporters get so upset by it - he thrives on it, and has done incredibly well for himself by being the tamest bad boy ever. Out of all the pro dancers, Brendan is also the one who seems to enjoy the celebrity life style the most - all because of his bad boy, headline grabbing status.

My thing with him is that the flashes of brilliance that we can see are often buried behind the need to play up.

And the fact that he hasn't seemed to have a good relationship with any of his partners since the horsefaced one. (I will let him off for Fiona - she would have made Matt cry, Ian wail and Darren scream!)...actually, I will let him off for Kelly too, she was flipping irratating.

It's not that, that upsets us it's the constant bashing on here it's started already and SCD doesn't start till Saturday!

I'm not sure he does court the headlines the papers follow him round even though he's with Zoe they still want to link him with Lisa etc

Without Brendan and Nat would SCD have taken off as it did?

I don't think Brendan is too bothered. I would assume he is sensible enough to understand that he would not have the lifestyle he has without that. The payoff is the "will they/wont they" rubbish.

Course, Lisa could stop dropping the soundbites, that would help!

Brendan IS basically a nice guy, but if we're going to be honest, he isn't known as being the brightest penny in the pound!! Not much between the ears - if you know what I mean!
