Home Theatre System With Multiple Inputs??
Zanai

Hi there been looking around the net and just cant seem to find a system that has enough inputs for what i need without going down the route of getting a decicated AV receiver.

Basically ive got a PS3 and Sky Plus+ Box that i want to link in with a system that ideally has an inbuilt DVD player capable of playing divx dvd-rs etc...

It just seems that all the systems im looking at generally only have 1 digital audio input and no HDMI input either so i wouldnt be able to link in the PS3 and Sky Plus box at the same time.

Ideally id like to link the PS3 by HDMI through the system as my TV only has one HDMI input. Then link the Sky Plus Box by digital audio to the system and use a scart to the TV for the video.

Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions??

Available from Play.com for £270

Edit: Sorry no DVD player built in, didn't read your specs properly.

3 HDMI inputs and 1 output on that?

That could work just get a seperate dvd player and link in.

I think thats the route you will have to go. The problem with built in DVD players is the fact that they only really provide the connection of external equipment as a nicety and isn't really the main function of the unit, thats why they tend to have limited connections for external equipment.

Had a good look at the unit and a few reviews seems like it will do the job (and in the future).

For now can connect the PS3 and a HDMI DVD player to the HDMI and connect Sky Plus by Optical and all is sorted.

Also in the future can link up Sky HD box by HDMI instead if i want. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ah! You never mentioned SkyHD. You may have a problem with the sony. Sky HD only passes stereo thru HDMI, for 5.1 sound you need to connect via optical. Easy, for most people with an amp like this they can connect both HDMI and optical to the amp and just assign the optical input to override the HDMI audio. However, Sony amps don't have this feature, they assume you will always want the audio from HDMI when you watch via HDMI. So with this amp you have to connect directly to your display via HDMI and optical to amp from SkyHD.

AFAIK its only SkyHD which has this problem.

Are you not better off with an HDMI switcher then you have free reign on what amp you want rather than limiting yourself to a specific one that has the right amount of inputs?

For slightly more (£272.50) electro centre sells it with a DVD player included...although I'm not sure if Play does this also.

I have a Yamaha HD AV Unit that works brilliantly, with Xbox 360, SKYHD, wii and my pc.

Only problem is that is is a few years old now and has no HDMI, but component works well for me.

I think the new Yamaha AV system has HDMI.

The sound quality is brilliant and i have never had a problem with it.

I bought this: http://www.consumer.philips.com/cons...tem+HTS3357-05 which only has one Coaxial input but so I can use my freeview DVR, PS2 and PS3 I have also bought this: http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/APRILO1.html and this: http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tv...Converter.html and the required cables. It makes my Home Theatre System more robust and works very well.
