Scart > VGA - Faulty?
Hope someone on here can help me with my problem or tell me if it's a fault with the cable...
Well, recently, because my projector I have (Sanyo PLC-XW50, now discontinued) supports Scart RGB, I thought I'd try it out, but not buying their official cable, because I couldn't really find it anywhere and also because of price. So, I got one off of eBay, this one to be exact, and received it a few days ago. Because the VGA connector is female, I do have to put a male VGA to male VGA cable between it and the device I use it on though, but that shouldn't be a problem, should it? Anyway, I tried plugging it in and got nothing. I tried both a Sky Digibox and my DVD player, both set to RGB, and got nothing. I also tried it with my PC monitor, and the same. I also, on the DVD player, went though different video out options (like component and P-scan) and still got no image on either devices. I've also tried it on a TV with VGA in and with a completely different DVD player (still set to RGB) and still nothing. I think I am doing it right because the manual for my projector just says to plug it in then go to Computer > RGB (Scart). The other devices obviously have no options. So, am I doing something wrong, do I have the wrong cable, or is it faulty? If it's faulty, I'll get in contact with the seller. If it's not, I might just keep the cable or try to return it, on the grounds I just don't want it. Hope someone knows what the problem is and thanks in advance.

I'm not very sure quite what you're trying to do, VGA and SCART RGB are completely different things, and not compatible - does your projector accept SCART RGB via the same socket?, if so you need to know how it should be wired, as it's not a standard feature.

If anyone does want to look at the instruction manual, it's here.
"The projector widely accepts various video and computer input signals including: Computers, 6 Color systems (PAL, SECAM, NTSC, NTSC4.43, PAL-M, and PAL-N), Component video, S-Video and RGB scart." The manual also says it uses the same port as the computer VGA for the Scart one. Also look at page 17, shows you how to hook it up, I'm (basically) doing that right. |

I suspect the lead you have may be to connect a PC VGA output to a TV RGB SCART input. In theory it should work the other way round but it all depends on whether the lead has any circuitry built in to handle the differences between PC VGA and TV RGB.
If the projector handles the different formats by itself then I suspect the lead may be wired subtly differently and so could be specific to the projector. Unfortunately that link you provided doesn't seem to work. But I have seen a similar device in CPC, Maplin and elsewhere. They do seem to have some electronics built in, for example.. http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/level5/mo...cpc/346982.xml One of those might do the job but would probably need the projector switching to PC mode on the VGA input. Although CPC says they are self powered the similar lead in Maplin talks of being able to connect an external PSU if needed. |

![]() Also, on the eBay listing it also says "The screen must support a horizontal scan rate of 15.625KHz" and the manual says it does. This is all pretty confusing. From Googling people seem to have said it will work too and you can make your own cables as well. Also to note, the manual for the projector notes what pins on the VGA do, might be of help? Thanks for the current replies.

Bump.
Anyone know? If not, I'll just try to return it under the bases that it doesn't work as described. |
