Ok so thats my broadband set up just in case you need to know

this is my problem

apparently because I live so far from the local BT exchange my router is permanantly pluged into the the BT test socket to get a broadband connection.

I am using a filter into which the telephone in that first room is also plugged. Because of all this the front plate of the master socket can't be replaced so I can't use the extention telephone in my office, the cable for this is buried in the walls and floor so that everything is all neat and tidy.

This cable comes out of the wall in the first room directly next to the master socket and is wired into the front plate. I was hoping to possibly get a BT plug to fit this end of the extention cable (wire?) and therefore plug it into a double splitter, also plug the first telephone into this and plug this into the filter.

Is any of this possible to do and if so where would I get the plug from as I can't find one anywhere.

If this isn't possible to do anyone got anyother suggestions? or better ways of doing this? I don't really want cables or wires running around skirtings and things so would idealy like to use the existing extention cable somehow.

I hope I have made my problem clear, being very new to this game I'm sometimes confused with jargon and can use the wrong words to express myself.

if you intend on keeping your router at the master socket then this is what you need.

basically it's a replacement faceplate that seperates the b/band from the phone at the master socket, and your ext'ns that are connected to the back will also be filtered.

Are you saying that if I use this front plate instead of the original one I will not have to carry on using the test socket? cos at the moment this is the only way I can keep my bb connection.

yes, these are similar to the ones that we install on long lines when the ext'ns drag the signal down too much.

it would be the same as your setup is now, as this faceplate is a filter, however the connections on the back for ext'ns are filtered(so would be the same as you using a socket doubler method you were pondering).

Thanx, I have just ordered one

So I bought the XTE-2005 master socket filter, ordered it about 2pm and it arrived with the postie next morning.

Read the destructions only to find I needed an IDC tool but a visit to my local Maplins sorted that at £2.49.

Husband fitted it last night and voila everything is working as it should be. Magic.
