I ditched Sky Movies because I was fed up with the repeats and poor offerings. Ever since Sky Movies relaunched into genre channels last year, the service has gone right downhill.
Perfect example of consumer choice, SKY didn't offer you a service you considered suitable or at least not good value and you took your money elsewhere. |

I don't subscribe to sky movies,I do have sports etc, but the movie package is very repetitive, i was sent an offer by sky a while ago to watch any HD movie for may or june (i forget) for free, and there was not a single movie on there that i wanted to watch

Sky said they wasn't bothered about the loss of movie subscribers, however they continuously plugged Sky Movie commercials, trying to lure movie subscribers back by making out that the new-look Sky Movies was something special. Not everyone was fooled. |

How exactly has the service deteriorated? And what is this uproar you speak of? A couple of people on DS? Sky Movies is as excellent as it has always been, but people will always complain about "$ky" and how evil and horrible they are. How dare every film they show not be a premiere!

Many internet forums were swamped with complaints. This led to the Sky Movies Team posting in response to the customer complaints. Many of my work colleagues, friends, relatives and neighbours also complained about the new-look Sky Movies. Quote:

I have never had any problems with the overall service Sky deliver. I have been a Sky subscriber for over 15 years. Some people complain about Sky for the sake of it. The new-look Sky Movies service was my first ever gripe with Sky in all the years I have been a loyal customer.

I am glad to hear that so many people do see there is an issue with the number of repeats on the movie channels.
An earlier poster is wrong to say that the licence fee is not good value for money as this licence also covers all BBC radio, national and local stations and not just their TV services although he may not actually listen to the radio. Many people forget this fact due to the 'TV' licence name. I also understand that it is difficult for Sky to buy enough new titles to support so many channels. I do like the idea of having a sub for a fews months on and off to have a break things up until the content changes. But I would rather that Sky did this thinking for their customers with better scheduling of the titles that they have availalbe (and perhaps with a few more) on the movie channels. I do not think that this is too much to ask for, it would work for MOST people as they still have the option to watch the classic movie channels, showing the old movie repeats (more of the time) for viewers who still want this content. I am not compaining for the sake of it, I like a lot of what Sky offers, I would just like to flick through the channels and see a wider choice.... |

Too many repeats and the quality wasn't there. The service was perfectly fine before. Also, some movie channels cut their broadcasting hours, which also had an impact on the quality of the service.

But I just don't understand what the huge difference was when they rebranded the channels. If they'd have left them how they were, they'd have still been showing exactly the same movies up until now, just not on a specific channel.
The old Sky Movies service was a lot better and there was more of a variety to choose from rather than the same movies being repeated over and over again. And like I said in my previous posting, after the movie rebrand some channels reduced their transmission hours from 24 to 18. |

The market research stated that there was a need to change the movies but people became irate on here because they lost channels as a result. The movie content didn't change AFAIA but they did make the mistake of removing a few channels and this is where people took the opinion that they also lost movies/content for no reduction and price; quite rightfully people were up in arms but they did listen to these forums and fixed the issue. It's far much easier with the movies placed into genres as you can see at a quick glance if you fancy a comedy for example, where as before you may miss the comedy that was on as it was all split up into channels with no category view and you had to go through each and every one of those 12 movie channels.
I much prefer the way it's laid out now and can see where the OP is coming from regarding wanting more movies but if there are none there, then there isn't much that can be done. Remember, although not in HD you have access to 500 movies a month on the Sky Player - hopefully the back catalogue when VoD comes round may give everyone the opportunity to download the movie they want to their HD box - albeit most probably a few minutes to start the download, or streaming. |

I've only been a movies subscriber for about a month and can't say i'm very impressed.
The only thing stopping me from cancelling is due to all the other channels going HD next month. I love my HD content and ill be all over that. Maybe I just signed up too soon. |

Basically there are too many movie channels (SD & HD) for the amount of contact - why - people in this forum moan about the small number of HD channels - sky's response is to increase the number of HD movie channels - people then moan about the amount of repeats, the reduction of hours etc etc You just can't please everyone! Must admit I have sky world with HD - but rarely watch movies (haven't time). I think I might remove movies from my subs, record those I really want to watch then re-subscribe for a month at Xmas and watch them! |

Stop whinging? I have every right to complain about a service this poor, the point of this forum to talk about what we ALL think. If you don't like it then that is fine too all opinions are allowed.
I work in the TV business so I understand exactly how film licencing works and I know that Sky could do much better if they really wanted to. I don't watch sport so I will not comment on these channels as I am sure that you will know better. But I have every right as a paying customer to have an opinion about a service as poor as the Sky movie channels. Of course another option would be for Sky to reduce the channels to the level that thier acquisitions really do support, we are not stupid enough films for only 5 channels on 10+ Sky movie channel will never really work i.e. only possible with a million repeats. At least 250 different titles shown per month. That includes about 25-28 new titles every month. This means that each title is shown around 10 times per month! Terrirble!!! |

To keep things fresh, I tend to dip in and out of the Sky Movies subscription. I have it for 2 months and then cancel for 2 months.
I tend to look out for when a poor run of Sat 8pm Premieres are about to start eg Last Saturday - Pirates Of The Caribbean (possibly the worse in the franchise) too dark and too long! This Saturday - I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry - all Adam Sandler films seem pretty much the same IMHO. So I am in the middle of a cycle of cancelled films but I will get them back when a good run of HD Premieres are about to start. The problem for me is finding the time to watch all the films. I typically record programmes like Brotherhood, Day Break, Dexter, The Riches and lots of other HD content. I find it impossible to get to watch more than about 2 films a week. I think Movies represents good vfm but if you don't like the loops, do what I do, cancel for a little while and start afresh. |

For what it is worth, here is my opinion.
I do not subscribe to Sky Movies but as I have Sky HD I do get some Movie Channels included. I find that the quantity and quality of the Films shown are more than enough for my needs and I have no complaints. |

Personally we are getting more value out of the movie channels since getting HD.
Before getting HD we used to buy an enormous amount of DVD's, basically because we didn't have to wait months before it was shown on Sky and the picture quality was better, over the years this made the movie channels poor value for money as we had seen 99% of what Sky were showing. Things are now different, although we still have a DVD player we also have a Bluray player, but we are more careful in what we buy, we will treat ourselves to the major blockbusters but that's about it, we seem to more patient now and don't mind waiting for the movies to appear on the movie channels. We watch about 3-5 movies a week and find the subscription good value for money. |

What I don't get is, what do people want them to show instead? They have deals with all the major studios, have started showing more independent and international films as well, but there's only so many premieres it's possible to have in any given year. So the rest of the channels are another chance to catch up on the movies that have premiered recently, and a selection of older films from the libary.
If we're just talking about the HD channels, I agree that with only 2 channels plus the premiere channel it's not a huge choice, but that's being rectified next month anyway. |

I do think Sky Movies are pricey but if they change it to Free then the whole service would flop look at Film4 it used to be good when it was FilmFour and they charged £6 per month for the channel but now its crap.

It is pricey when you compare it to SKY Sports which costs SKY hundreds of millions of pounds more per year to buy and produce content. There was a difference in the price rise this year round but as the two premium packages have developed a definite price gap should have developed. F4 changed their approach to movies when they went FTA, they become nothing more than a secondary outlet for CH4's movie contracts. |

When the movie channels first rebranded they started showing too many older movies from the 70s and 80s.
Last thing I personally want is lots of 'premiers' since that's where the rubbish is. |

I only recently added movies to my package so I am playing 'catch-up' in a way but I think the mix of movies is about right.
The way I look at things is an average DVD rental is about £2.50 to £3.00 so if I were to rent two or three films a month that would roughly the same price as Sky movies (as well as having to watch the DVD's & return them within a specified time frame) but with Sky if I don't have time to watch them I can record & watch at a later date (or wait until they are shown again). I think Sky movies offer good value even more-so with the upcoming HD channels planned. |

But Sky Movies costs £18 per month? 3 x £3.00 is £9
If you add just 'movies' to a standard mix it costs £17. If you already have 'sports' it only costs an extra £9 per month to add movies. |

Yeah see what you mean I was thinking from the standard entertainment mix part but if you have Sports anyway then I see what you mean.
I remember before on Telewest (now Virgin) you used to be able to have the Sky Movies channels for £21 per month then if you added £1 extra then you could get either Sky Sports 1 & 3 or Sky Sports 2 & 3 or you could get all 4 Sky Sports and all movies for £26.50 on top of your package. I know sky was different. I also remember the days when Sky World was £34 per month
