I have seen Lurpak advertised about 50 times this week.Rutger Hauer does the voice over about not microwaving a baked potato and bake it showing it some respect.

It's a good ad, but the ones with Douglas and his trombone are classic!

Double diamond works wonders
Smith crisps
Golden wonder crisps
On top of old smokey
All covered in snow
I lost my golden wonder
to a brave Navajo
HOW
He crept up behind me
And stole them away
Now down in the valley
They're crunching away
Oh bring back my golden wonder smokey bacon flavourrrrrrr
I think you've missed the point here. You can't get Double Diamond anymore and Smiths got bought out by Walkers. We're on about products you can still buy today.

A lot of washing and cleaning products seem to not be bothering with TV advertising anymore. There seem to be far too many insurance, compensations and money saving orientated adverts on at the moment.

Thank goodness that all those femine hygeine product adverts disappearing. All except for the "Have a happy period" advert which was obviously written by a man.

I must be watching the wrong channels - either that or my mind is so overloaded with price comparison/insurance/debt ads that I can't remember anything else!

I think sometimes the advert is so obscure that you miss the point completely. The ones you remeber most are the "In your face, here is the product, now buy it" kind of thing. Well it worked for Cillit Bang!

You can't go wrong with a cheesey jingle. I think averts these days try to be too clever and steer away from what it is there actually trying to sell. With the Lurpack advert there's not enough package placement on screen and not enough mention of the product name. One quick distraction and you've missed it.

Wasn't Elvis Costello's Dad in that ad? I seem to remember something about it in Smash Hits (back in the day )
He wasn't in the ad but he did sing the jingle. The guy in the advert was on ITV the other week.

Ariston don't really exist any more .. not in the UK at least.

They're now part of "The Indesit Company" (who also own Hotpoint, Creda and Cannon - note the two n's) and even the Ariston website is just a holding page that redirects to Indesit.

Are the Ronseal ads still running? They were superb. If I ever find myself in the market for fence painting products I will always buy the one the that 'does what it says on the tin'.

I hadn't noticed that but come to think of it, you're right. Thank god - the nadir was surely Claire Rayner discussing 'wings' with a fake chat show audience. Cringe inducing stuff.

As for 'woooooaaaaah bodyform' what can one say?

Everest Windows - The ones with farmer Ted Moult back in 1980s (the last one being in 1986 shortly before he committed suicide). John Noakes took over following Ted's death in 1986.

It was 22 years before Everest came back with a new ad. Fronted by Craig Doyle.

Jacob's Club. (Sorry, you're all going to have the song in your head all day now.) Bought some orange ones today and they're still quite nice, though I don't know he you still get all the flavours (like the plain chocolate ones with the golf ball on the wrapper, what was all that about ).

Also - totally random but Castrol GTX used to be advertised on TV all the time (the ads with the oil running s-l-o-wly down the side of the can).

Builder 1: Will it be chips or jacket spuds? Will it be salad or frozen peas?
Builder 2/3: Will it be mushrooms?
Builder 4: Fried onion rings?
All Builders: You'll have to wait and see!

Narrator: Birdseye introduce steakhouse grills. Pure ground beef that you cook like a steak and serve like a steak.

Narrator: What will you give your old man with his steakhouse grill?

All Builders: Hope it's chips, it's chips. We hope it's chips, it's chips. We hope it's chips, it's chips....

Birdseye steakhouse grills. Now in lamb as well as beef.

Didn't Cadbury's assimilate that particular product into their Dairy Milk range?
No. There's always been a Cadbury's Turkish Delight (used to be just in bigger bars ala Tiffin), but they've since launched a Dairy Milk with Turkish Delight, which is the same as the big bars.

Fry's Turkish Delight (obviously now owned by Cadbury's), the little pink square one, has always been available, and still is. I'm eating one right now.

The slow running oil of Castol GTX was the first one I thought of.

Others I can remember are
Swan Vestas
Cadburys Fudge
Pedigree Chum
Vosene Shampoo
Crunchie
And those "Arfur daly" ads for "The Leeds" building society.

That probably doesn't count as Pedigree still exists but they dropped the Chum ages ago. And as I'm sure you know Pedigree advertise all the time - generally the premium products and dental chews.

People forget Lurpak is advertised still, and quite a lot, ever since they dropped Douglas (the butler playing the trombone) as it just doesn't seem right.

Probably the catchiest hook at the moment is "la la lala la I'm Lovin' it" for Maccy D. That jingle is still a bit old school
The twist with that is that from the start they planned to only include the "I'm lovin' it" part of the jingle for the first couple of months. After that, they just play the first five notes and the viewer completes the rest in their head.
