Making pastry?
Don't know if this can be made a poll. Which applies to you?
1. Always make my own 2. Always buy it in, can't be bothered/can't see the point of making it 3. Always buy it in but I aspire to make my own one day 4. Make the quicker/easier ones, wouldn't attempt others like puff/choux |

I only ever have pastry in mince pies, in which case I always make my own. I have my mother's pastry recipe, and it's gorgeous. It's got ground almonds and lemon zest in it. I'm really keen to try savoury pastry for pies soon.

I usually make my own, but as I hate making pastry (I don't know why, I enjoy making everything else), I will sometimes buy one of those ready made pie cases, which are great for lemon meringue pies.

Always make my own, but then, I am a baker!!!!
Tend to make it at work and just bring home what I need as we always have lots left over. Puff really isn't that hard to make once you've done it a few times, and Choux is dead easy now! I know of other bakeries which by a mix for Choux pastry.... just add water.... it's as good as the home made but obviously without the chance of making a mess of it. We are a traditional bakery though, and the real way is the only way for us! |

Make my own shortcrust - its really easy in the food mixer but buy puff pastry.
I've made choux in the past and must get round to doing it some more as my OH loves profiteroles! I'd like to try some savoury recipes with it too - I'm being inspired by 'Masterchef - the Professionals' ! |

I fall into group 4, but would like to have a go at some of the more complicated stuff. It is just a question of finding the time as much as anything else.

I went through a phase of making pasties and bought puff pastry from the supermarket. It worked fine. Just as good as the fresh pasties from Morrisons (where I used to get my dinner from).

I used to make my own but just lately i have been buying ready made unless I need quite a bit of it & then I will make it myself in a large batch. I can't stand getting my hands messy although I have bought a food possessor now so might do it on that.

I buy frozen pastry.
Even quicker that the 'just add water' variety. |
