Was it?!

Well if Syco follow the Josh Groban route and let Rhydian record an album of Xmas songs next year I will be a very happy bunny (Noel by Josh sold around 4 million in the US alone last year and was No 1 in the Billboard charts for around 4 weeks).
Olga - let's face it, Josh Groban is in an entirely superior class to the like of Rhydian and G4. He will continue to have success after success, whereas those others generally peter out after making a little bit of noise.

That is a matter of opinion Ratzaki - Walter Afanasieff said Rhydian is one of the best singers he has ever worked with and the best around at the moment - his opinion of course, but he has worked with some top people. There is room for both and I would say that both Rhydian or G4 do more than 'make a little bit of noise'. Josh Groban's management take Rhydian seriously enough to use his google page to advertise ŽJosh's album.
So I'd say both are great singers and I hope both will be around for years to come.

I think spiidey posted earlier the figure was 66,500. Don't forget the busy weekend to be counted for.

Don't know about Shayne, but as of today, Rhydian has sold 66,000 in four days - about the same as Leon in the last six weeks.

However! Leon has a new single out sometime which may push his album sales up.

Remember, Rhydian is selling on a full price album - no single to promote sales.

Rhydian is a STAR It's done him no harm not to win last year, though he was gutted on the night. I won't be cruel to Leon but... WTF did it happen?

Hi,

Perhaps we could stick to discussing the contestants rather than the fans? A number of off-topic and disruptive posts have been removed.

Thanks

Indeed - most artists have singles released a couple of weeks before to promote the album

They should release the duet as a single, because this is one of the tracks that would almost definitely get airplay along with the original. Rhydian is certainly taking the difficult route with no single, no radio airplay and virtually no TV promotion apart from the advert - and, of course, he went and chose the very week with massive supply problems to release his album.

I am sure Rhydian is going to be the most successful runner up and the most successful contestant ever coming out of X Factor.
Just tell me who else will be able to sell pop, rock, musical and classical opera albums? Who else will be the star of West End and Broadway?
Rhydian will never be as successful as Leona Lewis. I doubt anyone will.

RUNNER UP! I said!
I posted this in another thread yesterday and have corrected Rhydian's sales!

Just to put things into perspective from MW Digital

X Factor's top 10 selling Albums (issue 13/12/08 so sales do not include last week)

Leona Lewis - Spirit 2,130,742
G4 - G4 609,486
Shayne Ward - Shayne Ward 526,573
Shayne Ward - Breathless 454,071
G4 - G4 & Friends 426,115
Journey South - Journey South 413,061
Andy Abraham - The Impossible Dream 326,169
Ray Quinn - Doing It My Way 243,184
G4 - Act Three 139,984
Andy Abraham 120, 214

So @ 150k for just 2 weeks Rhydian is not doing badly but he has a long way to go to beat many of the X Factor first album releases.

Plus how many of them ever got to actually promote the album via an X Factor appearance - got a feeling it is only Leona?

Let's talk about this after five or ten years and we shall see who is going to be more successful.
My bet is on Rhydian!

I see not much point in making comparisons with other X Factor years. A lot had released their albums by the Spring following the X factor - they waited maybe too long this time. However, Rhydian is selling well. It anyway doesn't matter what others sold before, it is about sufficiently meeting the expectations of the label - and that is probably not just based on sales. For example, I very much doubt it was ever intended to do more than one album with Ray Quinn.

I agree.......... the previous runners-up all released within 3-4 months of their X Factor appearance so cannot be compared with Rhydian who has broken the mould in waiting a year before releasing his debut, and he is selling extremely well - and more importantly likely to have a third week inside the top ten - and is expected to go platinum by the end of the year. The only thing that matters is whether his contract will be extended to more albums and I would say most definitely.

Yep, we don't know how much he is going to sell in total., and whether he will do better or worse than anyone in a long run.

I notice one artist missing from daisychain's list is Jonathan Ansell - as a former member of G4 shouldn't he count?

His album was released a couple of weeks before Rhydian - there was some press story about them going "head to head"

Anyone know how his sales are doing? As he is a similar genre to Rhydian - might be an interesting comparison.

Not sure about his actual sales but the chart positions don't look that impressive

IIRC he entered at 30 something, but he did not have a showcase like a Saturday night XF show....even Josh just had GMTV and managed a #30 entry this week.

I think Rhydian fans need to acknowledge that appearing on the show was a huge factor in reminding Joe Public he existed and boosted his sales.

I believe he charted around No 35 with sales of around 11k - quite a difference from his first solo album which charted inside the top ten I believe And disappointing given that he appeared on virtually every TV programme going promoting it - became quite tedious eventually

Rhydian will never be the most successful runner up, he still looks so false, but then again he signed with Syco!
