chart run: 32-64

I think Rhydian fans need to acknowledge that appearing on the show was a huge factor in reminding Joe Public he existed and boosted his sales.”

Of course it does, no one denies it, except some Leon's fans occasionally

I thought he'd taken up residency on The Alan Titchmarsh Show .. he was on practically everyweek as part of the thing to find a female singer for his tour .. and then even when that was over he was back promoting his CD .... he hasn't quite beaten John Barrowman for the number of shows you can appear on to promote your CD, but he was on a fair number and his advert was shown a fair bit.

My bet is on Rhydian!”

I think rhydian will perhaps be the most verstile of all the runners up - with an alternating career of musicals, records and his ultimate into opera in future years. Leona doesn't count as she was not a runner up, however Leona is not versatile - she does not act, dance, talk much . she will no doubt still be selling records for years to come, but that will be all she does.

Not sure if you can coun t Jonathon ansell technically as he was G4 and it the group who came runners up. The group, unless they do a reunion, will go no further than they have.

Ansell certainly seemed to be on everytime I switched on the box - same with the debut album. That peaked at #9, not sure of sales.

So Rhydian is doing quite well in comparison.

I know what you are saying but that just read as if selling records for years to come was a minor acheivement

Rhydian is just at the start of what may be a great career but he has much to do to take Gareth's crown as the most successful runner up in a reality show.”

I guess Gareth was offered it after Rhydian was offered it, and turned it down (it came up in a recent interview)

oops sorry - glad you saw my drift. I think Leona will have massive respect like Shirely Bassey etc throughout her lifetime.

Louis Walsh was on the Mooney show on RTE radio 1 today. He dismissed Leon, he said Leon shouldn't have won last year and that Rhydian is already more successful and has a long career ahead of him.
Louis said Leon won because the video shown before one of his performances showed him crying and that won it for him.
Louis talked as if Leon would disappear in time, he talked about career span, he hinted Leon was in trouble in this area while Rhydian will be very success over the years.

Yes, I think Leona could have a kind of Bassey-type career. A hipper version.

She'll need to sing Bond tunes and wear feather boas in live concerts though!

He really doesn't help matters does he? Shame he doesn't come on here and deal with the fallout from comments like that! If tears = votes - they must be coining it in this year.

He did no such thing, I was listening too. He said all the rest though.

Queen Maeve is right in that I did not get one part right, I listened back, he said Rhydian is more successful than Leon and talked about Rhydian being a real professional.

I was busy at the time and I accept Maeve is correct, at the time I thought it was very dismissive of Leon.

Apologies to anyone who I owe an apology to...

They should leave Leon alone now, saying it once was already too much. I think Leon's video in the final did move a lot of people. I remember both Brian and Simon saying words to that effect, that they felt it was a good result and good that Leon won the prize.
But surely Louis should be talking about this year, after all it is only a few days before the final.
These statements do not do anyone any favours, neither Leon nor Rhydian. It appears to have caused a revival in old hostilities just when things had finally quietened down. But it seems it is last year that still attracts all the interest. It says a lot about this year's X factor.
