Chicken Wings
Gotta keep your eyes open for a bargain these days........
So I noticed the packs of chicken wings in Sainsbury........only £ 1.22p for a pack of 900gms, which is about 2 lb in real weight............and got a pack. There looks to be about 10 chicken wings in the pack Question arises..........what should I do with them ? |

Sorry to leave that dangling............decided mid post to make a cuppa............
Anyway my initial thoughts......... Cook the chicken wings in the oven, let them cool, strip off any meat and use that in a stir fry with veg and beansprouts and curry paste. Boil up the bones and skin to make stock for a chicken stew or soup............with lots of veg, potatoes etc I reckon i could get 3 meals out of that pack of wings......... ![]() Any other ideas for chicken wings ? |

I got a good sauce with Chicken wings from a local takeaway the other week so I tried to emulate it.
I was black and gloopy, but not overly sweet. It was kind of like Sweet & Sour but Black. -------------------- For the sauce: No quantities here, but what I did for the sauce was Ginger, Garlic finley chopped Onion in big pieces A few slices of Carrot. Fry gently in a pan/wok to cook and soften. The rest was a bit of an all in Added squirts of HP Fruity and Ketchup. A bit of 5 Spice and a load of Soy Brown sugar or Honey 1/2 cup of Chicken Stock Reduced it and added Cornflour to thicken. Make sure you have more sauce than you would expect to need. ------------------ For the wings: I cut the wings at the knuckle so you get two pieces per wing. I actually microwaved them on a pre-set chicken portion setting then deep fried them to make them cripsy. A slow deep fry or oven cooking would be fine as long as they are cooked but I think you need a crispy skin so that it doesn't go too soggy when you put them in the sauce. ------------------- Finished dish: Add the wings to the sauce and reduce more to have a nice gloopy, sticky sauce Add a few dashes of the ingredients to taste at the end of cooking if needed. |

Sort of barbecue chicken wings without a barbacue........
![]() I just don't fancy eating all the skin............. ![]() Anyway.........there 9 wings in the pack and I've cooked them in the oven. Stil waiting to strip the meat off but it looks like there's going to more meat than I thought......... When I cook a whole chicken I normally just chuck the wings away..........too fiddly.......... |

Cover them with foil and roast them in the oven for 45 mins, then add a jar of Discovery Buffalo Wing sauce.
Mix well and cook uncovered until brown. |

I'd not bother buying Chicken wings if you weren't going to eat the skin. After all they don't have much meat on them as it is. And I love chicken skin, nothing wrong with having it now and then. And if you are worried about the fat content rather than the taste (fair enough if you just don't like chicken skin) but if you cook the wings with the skin on the fat just goes into the chicken, so once cooked you might as well just eat the skin. If it is the fat content you are worried about you should remove any skin/fat before cooking.
For me, recipes like degsyhufc and stumblebum have gave sound perfect for chicken wings. |
