Watched that. She can be quite humourless in OC, but she has proven she has a GSOH. She said "if he sucks her tits" and Phil Jupitus loved it.

Apparently, the last 3 Wallanders are being held back until Xmas, I wonder if the same is true for the "OC Champions play off"?

Does anyone know when that's due to be broadcast, please? I'd have expected it the following week (ie. tomorrow) but there's nothing listed in Digiguide for the next two weeks.

Yeah, it must be going out as a Christmas special.

Only just started watching OC this series. I love the fact that this is a real challenging quiz as opposed to the the usual dumbed down rubbish. I love BBC4 shows because they tend to be aimed at people who are not content to be spoon fed their programming. This quiz really does test the old grey matter in only a way i've know previously by University Challenge and Mastermind, however despite me hardly being able to answer more than a few questions per episode I really enjoy it. I do think you have to be borderline genius though in order to get some of of those clues. However it's not that I have a problem with. It's the high brow, patronizing and extremely condesending attitude of Victoria Coren which really grates on my nerves. She makes the contestants look so stupid for not correctly answering the hardest of questions and I find her majorly stuck up and annoying. This show would be more enjoyable and accessible to those not public school educated if only they had a presenter that wasn't so up herself and dropped the 'I look down my nose at people who aren't intellectual' attitude and that being a complete brain box makes her somehow superior. There have been times where one of the teams have been unable to answer a question, only to be ridiculed by Ms Coren with comments like, 'How could you possibly not know that?' and other such put-downs.

In exactly the same way, I think an excellent show like Never mind the Full Stops was spoiled by an arrogant, condesending presenter who thinks that knowing the in's and outs of Phonetics make them 'The Elite, Select Few.' and think that it gives them carte blanche to ridicule the contestants for 'being so stupid.'

I may not be as knowledgable as those taking part in such shows but as a viewer I find it highly insulting to be made to feel by the quizmaster, like i'm thick or stupid just because I'm not able to solve such difficult questions and that in order to enjoy such shows you must be a member of MENSA or something.

Ta. Another question - anyone know why this series only had 8 eps whereas the first one had 15?

Cutbacks is the only reason I can think of.

I'm gonna have to stick up for Vicky Coren here. I've seen her on TV since the early days of Late Night Poker, and if she comes across like that, it's only because you haven't tuned into her sense of humour and irony. Try reading some of her excellent columns in the Guardian, and you'll hopefully have a change of heart.

I read a rave review of her new book For Richer For Poorer: A Love Affair with Poker in the TLS - I didn't know she won a £1 million in the European Poker Tour championship - respect

I'd say her humour is more along the lines of sarcasm than irony and the way she comes across would appear she's trying to ridicule others less intelligent in order to make herself look superior. Sorry but I find her whole attitude very arrogant and condesending. But having not read her column in the Guardian I will reserve judgement on that.

I think I've already answered this in this thread, but the short answer was that we took advantage of some spare money the Beeb had left over at the end of its budget cycle. That's why the show came back earlier than last year (normally it would start this month). Nothing more sinster than that.

Apart from one throwaway remark in the last round of the last show, I think you'll find she's more supportive of the teams than maybe you realise.

At the end of the day we all interpret things differently and vive la difference but I take her comments along the lines "how could you not get that!" as laughing with the contestants because the questions are so difficult/obscure.

Thanks for that. So it's like an extra series we wouldn't have had then. More Ms Coren is always a plus

That's very selfish when there are all these overpaid BBC personalities being forced to take a pay cut.

News just in, VC has tweeted in the last hour that a third series of OC has been commissioned for next year. Which is great.

Hurray!
Just hope there's going to be a few more 'episodes' than this year.

Not sure it's signed on the dotted line yet, but the plan is 15 shows.

Wouldn't it depend on how many teams sign up? And they'd have to be competent. No point in getting a pub team in that very quickly realises that they are out of their league.
