Any Homebrewers Here
Hi All,
This time of year I always start making my home made wine as it goes down well at Christmas. But this year I fancy making something different .I was wondering if anyone here has tried the high alcohol spirit / liqueur kits that can be bought & used legally in the UK as they don't require a stil. .Or if anyone can something that is good to make then please do as i'm all ears .

Wine is very easy to make but with making any type of drink, you have to keep it sealed as it will attract vinegar flies & as soon as that happens, you lose the drink & end up with vile tasting vinegar. There is a new yeast out called turbo yeast that allows you to make alcohol at 23% .If you google home brewing tips, you can find loads of simple tips from start to finish. Trust me it is fun to learn & even more fun to drink .

I used to brew back in the day - its easy to get to the stage of brewing bitter/mild to a very good quality, but very hard to get wine to a stage beyond 'plonk'
![]() However if you want to make traditional country wines like elderberry its not too dificult to make something 'drinkable' and different to grape wine and 'cos the main ingrediant is free its cheap! |

The home-vodka type kits are legal and produce an alcohol suitable for mixing with other strong ingredients i.e. they taste awful. Any further 'modification' may not be legal, and certainly shouldn't be discussed here

.I have used the Prohibition kits before & got a pretty good result, I was just curious if anyone has used products like : http://www.easybrew.co.uk/product_detail.php?id=1608 And then used things like the Prestige Liqueur & Spirit Essences. |

I've done a cherry brandy one that I got from a homebrew shop many moons ago and it was ok, but tasted a bit like cough mixture! Seem to remember we mixed it with cheap vodka for better results. That said, I would do one again, though probably a different flavour
![]() Btw: Just a wee heads up on that link you posted: http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/ number of people on that forum not happy with easybrew's service (or rather lack thereof) have a wee search there before you order anything. |

Thank you very much for the heads up on that, I have a lot of companies bookmarked on my computer who supply that product I wanted, that 1 was the first on the list. Thanks for the forum link as well
