Timer problem with 890 - not the usual one
Hot Rats

Hello.

I've just got 890 as part of a deal with the Bravia 32W4000 from local dealer. I've put the recorder in the bedroom as I have a 860 for downstairs. I assumed they would behave in a similar fashion but I am confused.

Because it's in the bedroom and we don't need the clock I had turned the front panel display off when the machine is switched off.

I set a program on timer via the EPG tonight and switched the machine off. When the programme was being broadcast I noticed it wasn't recording. I switched the 890 on and it started recording. I can't believe the machine has to be switched on for the timer to work, surely not? Is it possibly some bug that the timer wont work with the front panel display off? When the programme was finally recording I tried to switch the 890 off, but the message told me I had to cancel the recording to do so. This is very confusing for me because you can switch off the 860 while it's recording.

All in all I'm a bit confused. I have a very simple setup - scart into TV.

I'd be grateful if anyone can shed some light on this. Apologies if it's me being thick!

At a guess I would imagine it has to be in standby for timer recording to work? - turning the clock off probably turns the unit completely off to save power - so the timer can't work.
