Veggie Dumplings?

Hi,

I stopped eating meat a few years ago and really, really miss stew and dumplings! I'm going to make a veggie stew (granted it probably won't be quite as tasty as it would with meat!) but thinking for me it was the dumplings which realy made it!
Can you make tasty vegetarian dumplings?
Thanks!

Yes, we've used Atora for dumplings and they work fine. We put big field mushrooms (sliced) in our stew which helps with the taste.

Yes you can use vegetable suet and jazz them up with a few herbs seeing as you won't have the meat stock. I love dumplings too

I love veggie stew and dumplings.............most of the dumpling mixes are made with veggie suet now but check the label when you buy........you can add mixed herbs for an even better flavour. I use Quorn pieces in my stews, add some red wine and the Quorn takes up all the yummy flavour, lots of mushrooms, red onion, garlic and carrots, celery, tomato puree.

Easy peasy.
Fry an onion till its soft and golden, not brown.
Add diced raw carrot, swede and potato and just cover with water. Add a couple of veggie stock cubes and simmer till the veg are nearly soft.
Then add a leek, sliced, and finish cooking.
Finally add a drained tin of butter beans or borlotti beans or whatever you fancy, and check the seasoning; celery salt adds a nice flavour but don't add too much or it'll be too salty.
You can add other veg; I like sweet potato and grated celeriac, or perhaps turnip. Root veg are best, but you can add a little chopped green cabbage for colour.

It's often nicer reheated the next day, as the potato breaks up a bit and thickens the liquid.

Perfect! Sounds great for a frosty day like today! Thanks Mrs Fosdyke!

Herb dumplings are delicious. Pesto and chunky mushrooms also add to the robustness of the stew and form a rich gravy.

I use swede, onions, leeks, field mushrooms, carrots (and bisto).
