Panasonic TH42PZ85 optimum set up
Just setting up my Panny TH42PZ85 and I'm finding it slightly worse picture than my old Philips 37 inch LCD.
My LCD is 1080i yet the Panny is 1080p and supposed to be much better (well it should be as it cost far more) Anybody able to give me an ideal set up contrast etc....

What type of signals are you using?, according to various posters on here Panasonic sets don't have very good scalers, so SD tends to be poor - from the few Philips sets I've seen SD looks very good, so presumably Philips have good scalers. HD wise they should probably look much the same?. Given the choice I'd take the Panasonic though, I wouldn't touch a Philips. |

I've fiddled with the settings a bit and SD looks better than the philips now.
I've got 2 HD sources, a PS3 and a HDMI philips dvd player. Both of which look superb but the only difference I can tell from the philips LCD now is the Panny's images seem more real Bluray looks like the images can be touched on the Panny

1080P is only very slightly better than 1080i, and that's only on a true 1080P50 source with fast moving action - otherwise it's no different.
