Hi all,

My TV speakers have started to mess up... so I rang Samsung and they told me to take it to my nearest service centre (which was either some place 30 miles way, or closer but in London).

I don't really have a way of getting there (will ask a friend though!)... but apparantly someone said to me they had a Samsung engineer come out and fix/sort out their LCD.

How do you go about this?

I bought the TV in May so it's only 4 months old.

Should I just get some speakers like I got for my PC for now? I dont want surround sound just a good quality. If so, any advice on that?

I'm stuck!

As with every make, your guarantee is initially with where you bought it - if the TV requires taking somewhere for servicing, your retailer should arrange it.

You don't say what size your set is?, generally even if the service agents do callouts, it only applies above a certain size - below that you're expected to arrange transport yourself (both ways). As a responsible retailer we will collect a set and return it, assuming we delivered it in the first place (and you haven't moved miles away).

If your problem is that the sound is crap, then it's probably not faulty - many Samsungs have absolutely terrble sound - with small downwards facing speakers, with 2/3rds of the cone blanked off with a plastic baffle.

Hi Nigel,

Ah, well the size of the set is 26" (so no 40" heh!). It's a LE26R87BD.

See, I always knew the sound isn't brilliant on these LCDs... but it seems to have got really bad, and to my knowledge, no setting has been changed, nor fixes it! The speakers seem to be vibrating to everything!

It doesn't even happen when its loud... we're talking about in the 10-20s here.

I would take it back to Argos (where I got it from)... but I don't think I have the receipt (well I probably do but cant find it at the moment) but aside from that fact, it's not boxed either (I don't have the box!).

So I'm trying to think whether its worth doing a round trip of about 60-70 miles to get it repaired (if as you say, it even needs repairing!) or just buy some speakers for around £50 (I don't want anything fantastic... just to sound OK for normal TV and Xbox!) to plug in to it.

You don't need a reciept for faulty goods, and form of proof of purchase is sufficient, CC statement? Take it to Argos, ring 1st, any branch should do it.

When you bought the set you were asked for your name and address for TV licence purposes so if you can't find proof of purchase try that, as for extra speakers no way, the set's under warranty.

If you don't have your receipt, then you can't take it to a service centre - they require the receipt as proof of purchase.

As suggested, credit card statement etc. will do as proof of purchase for the retailer, but NOT the repairer, as he (obviously) has no access to their records).

As a retailer we commonly check our records for proof of purchase, but most big retailers don't have that option, or at least won't do it. As always, it's up to the customer to prove it's under guarantee, not the retailer to prove it's not.

BTW, as it's a 26 inch, that's definately NOT covered by a callout, it's much too small.
