I agree, here's the review I posted on various forums today:
Quote:
“I own every single Oasis CD, just like everyone else. There are some tracks on every album that I can't listen to ever again because they're a bit dull, stuff like "Up in the Sky", "Bring It on Down", and "Digsy's Dinner" from Definitely Maybe come to mind (I'm not saying they're bad, I love "Digsy's Dinner", but it's one of those filler tracks). The "The Swamp Song" excerpts in (What's the Story) Morning Glory? would have been better off not being included on the CD, being that we're in an age of the MP3 Player, there are probably people like myself who leave it out since they have The Masterplan anyway. To be honest though, I've never liked their instrumentals, it's just basically the band jamming, anyone can do that.
On the other hand, Dig Out Your Soul is very much geared towards a mainstream audience, every track on there is great and they could all be future singles. The critics right now are saying that kids are listening to older music because it sounds better on the new technology, and I for one agree. I'm starting to see less and less people listening to rap and going for stuff by The Beatles, The Clash, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and reggae. I think this album will attract a lot of those people that are into that because it does have that groove filling and at the moment that's what everyone wants to be nowadays, the next Beatles (at least in my school, but no one there knows Oasis).
Going back to skipping tracks on the other albums, I just have to listen to the whole album in one go, and I have for the last twenty times I listened (I basically put it on and couldn't sleep because I was dancing to it). I think their first US single should be "Bag It Up," it's very rocky and radio friendly, I love the "more, more, more" bit. "The Turning" will be a classic with a line like "Shake your rag doll baby!" It's very soft at the start and then the chorus comes in, then BOOM. Noel sung songs are always great, "Waiting for the Rapture" is very impressive "I'm tired, come get me off the merry-go-round," the way he sings it is so pleasing. "The Shock of the Lightning" of course is great and flows really well with the album. "I'm Outta Time" I think will be a classic, I could see Liam just sitting there on his on singing the lyrics, I could see it getting a lot of airplay on the radio, it'd be a hit in the US. I actually find "(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady" quite sensual, at least in Noel's voice. I think if it was made into a single, they could use some nice model and have the video be in slow motion.
"Falling Down" is bound to be a huge anthem, I can't wait to see the video they produce for it, it has to be something extreme like Noel standing on a mountain or something, screaming out the lyrics. Just as I thought, the produced version of "To Be Where There's Life" is awesome, really grooving sounds, I'm really glad they decided to add lyrics to it, it'd be just filler if it was just left alone, and the lyrics rock! "Ain't Got Nothin'" is probably the weakest on the album, but it's a lot better produced than in the demo we heard earlier in the year. The rhythm in "The Nature of Reality" is amazing, really rocking, very simple, classic. "Soldier On" ends the album very nicely, very touching in a way.
I say don't skip any of the tracks for those of you who haven't listened yet, listen to it all the way through at least five times before you make up your mind about it. They've made a really, really, really good album this time around. It's going to be huge everywhere and is probably going to blow up the music industry in the US, that's if we keep the sales up. If there's enough hype, it will definitely happen for them this time around.”
